Big Bad Wolfe is the debut studio album by American pop singer Syd Wolfe. The album was released in the UK on 13 April 2009 via Ensemble Entertainment. Featuring collaborations from produces such as Stargate, RedOne, and Indigo Peak, the album was commercially successful and debuted at #5 on the UK Albums Chart. The album was later re-released as Big Bad Wolfe 2.0 and managed to reach #1 on the UK Albums Chart.

To date, the album has been certified 2x Platinum in the UK by the BPI and has sold more than 760,000 copies in the UK.

Background and recording[edit | edit source]

After landing a record deal with BRECORDS, Syd & Richard Knowles (Manager) put together a demo to send out to major producers to garner interest.

Quickly, producers were pouring in and were keen to start work with Syd and recording for 'Big Bad Wolfe' started in September 2008.

Most of the album was complete by January 2009 and the label sent a first single to radio.

Re-release[edit | edit source]

After the success of the original version of the album, it was reported in May 2009 that Syd was heading to Los Angeles, California to record tracks with various producers. It was quickly revealed that a re-release was planned.

Concept[edit | edit source]

Syd herself has said that there isn't one specific behind the album and that the album was just "one to enjoy"

The quote "I don't want all of my music to be about me being a bitch and 'dancing on up in the club' and although I do have some fun songs like that, a lot of the songs have character and depth that most pop songs don't seem to have" was taken from Syd's press release.

The main idea behind the majority of tracks on 'Big Bad Wolfe' is relationships be they romantic or friendly.

Release and chart performance[edit | edit source]

The album was released April 13th 2009 and debuted at 5. After just three weeks in the UK album chart top 10, Big Bad Wolfe was certified Silver in recognition of 100,000 copies sold.

The album managed to sell very well and rather quickly and was quickly certified Gold and later Platinum just four months after its release.

When Big Bad Wolfe 2.0, the album's re-release, was released the album jumped from #40 to #1 in one week, making it the biggest jump on the albums chart ever.

In the UK, the album has sold 767,085 and has been certied double platinum by the BPI.
