Eoin is the debut studio album by singer-songwriter and The Uraps Factor contestant Eoin O'Neill. The album was released in both standard and deluxe editions on May 13th, 2013, preceding the release of Eoin's debut single "Hide The Body", and debuted at #1. It held atop the UK albums chart for two weeks, and has currently been certified platinum to-date, with sales bordering on 900,000 copies sold. Its lead single was a top 3 hit, and the follow-up, "Perfect Mistake" became Eoin's first UK #1 hit. "4AM" was the third single from the album, and Eoin's second consecutive UK #1.

Background & Recording[edit | edit source]

Eoin auditioned for The Uraps Factor in late 2012, making it successfully past the judges' houses and into the live finals, where he was mentored by Kleo in the Boys category. Eoin's run on the show was short-lived, only lasting two weeks into the lives shows before elimination. Blacklight Records was quick to express their interest in him, and a deal was quickly struck post-exit. Eoin's signing was announced in April of 2013, with the news that he was already working on the album. A number of demos Eoin recorded prior to The Uraps Factor were revisited during the production of the album, and professionally re-recorded for inclusion. The rest of the album's content was made up of newly-written material and cover songs.

To work on the album, Eoin re-united with mentor Kleo, who made her debut as a producer on the record, and he also worked with other Uraps Factor judge and Kleo's best friend James Moss. Kleo and James each have production credits on the album, and serve as joint executive producers for the album. For the tracks that they did not produce, Eoin spent time in Los Angeles working with Matt Serletic, known for his production work with Rob Thomas and Matchbox Twenty. Eoin declined the opportunity to collaborate with other artists on the album; wanting to make a statement for himself as a solo artist by writing the majority of the album himself and not including featured credits.

Singles[edit | edit source]

  • "Hide The Body" (May 20th) was Eoin's debut single and the lead single from the album, released in Ireland in conjunction with the album, and the week following the album's UK release. The single debuted at #3 in the UK and #1 in Ireland, and hit #1 on both territories' airplay charts. Additionally, the song charted at #1 on the UK digital download chart. With an extended 12-week run on the UK chart, it was eventually certified platinum, after its successor achieved platinum certification.
  • "Perfect Mistake" (July 1st) was the second single from the album. A cover version, Eoin adopted the song and made it his own, and it is presently considered to be his signature hit. The single continued his streak on the Irish singles and airplay charts, and on the UK airplay chart. It was Eoin's first UK #1 on the main sales chart, but only reached #2 on the digital chart. The song is Eoin's biggest hit to-date, with sales exceedng 448k in the UK; meaning the single is certified platinum. It was his first single to reach platinum certification, with "Hide The Body" soon following. "Perfect Mistake" won Best Male Video at the 24th Uraps Awards.
  • "4AM" (September 16th) was the album's third single, having been chosen based on strong critical acclaim and fan preference. Again it extended Eoin's Irish chart streak, and it became Eoin's second consecutive UK #1 sales hit, second consecutive UK #2 digital hit and third consecutive UK #1 airplay hit. It was released up against Eoin's cousin Nicola O'Neill and her group the Ace Rejects. With this single, Eoin became the first of any Uraps Factor contestant to score multiple chart-topping singles. The song has not yet reached certification, due to having just been released.

Chart Performance[edit | edit source]

"Eoin" debuted at #1 on the UK albums chart with sales of 89,007 copies, making Eoin the first from the second season of The Uraps Factor to score a #1 album. His good fortune extended for a second week, holding on at the top with an increased sales week of 111,352; enough for the album to be certified Gold before the chart certifications were re-calibrated. To-date, the album has sold over 892k in the UK, having spent the majority of its time on-chart inside the top 10. 'Eoin' returned to #1 in its 8th week with a major sales boom due to the success of second single "Perfect Mistake", a massive UK #1 hit. The album has also been released in Eoin's native Ireland, where it stayed at #1 for four consecutive weeks. "Eoin" was nominated for Best Pop/Dance Album at the 24th Uraps Awards, however it did not win.
