Honey (born Vivienne Honey White; April 17, 1981) is an American R&B singer and model.

After joining many pop groups in the United States, with none amounting to any sort of success, she moved to the United Kingdom where she was offered a recording contract with Saturdays Records in 2009. She began promoting single "Porcelain", but this was later canceled and she released herself from her contract. She was signed by Fusion Records in 2010 and released her debut single, 'Gone Til December' in 2011. The single was a critical and chart success and charted at #4 in the UK & #9 in the US. Her debut album 'Mafia' ,and the single of the same name followed, and reached #5 on the UK album chart, #12 on Billboard 200 & #1 in Germany. The album scorned 5 UK/Germany top 10 & US top 40 hits and sold moderately.

In 2013, Honey released her sophomore album, 'Pop This Bitch!', for which she gained a much wider recognition. It debuted at #1 in the UK, US & Germany and eventually rose to the top spot in 11 countries around the world. It went on to be certified Diamond and was #6 in the End of Year charts in the UK. The albums lead single Hype Man! became her first UK #1 single and matched this feat in many other territories including Germany, US & Australia. 3 further singles were released worldwide, including her second UK #1 single 'Cardiac Arrest'.

A new single, titled 'Misstress', was announced in January 2014 and was a minor hit in May 2014, reaching #3 and earning a Gold certification. Her third album was tentatively scheduled for worldwide release on August 11th but this was later pushed back 7 weeks to September 22, 2014 due to recording issues. It was announced on August 3rd that the album will be titled 'Me X Myself'. The albums lead single 'Ratchet' reached #1 in the UK, US & Germany.

Career[edit | edit source]

Early life[edit | edit source]

Honey was born as Vivienne Honey White in the borough of Brooklyn in New York City, New York, United States of America on 17 April 1981. Her father, Benicio White, is of Hawaiian and Russian descent; her mother, Floella, is from the Phillipines. Despite her lineage, Honey states that people always thought she was either "Black, Latin, or Arabic when I'm really none of those things". She enrolled in performing arts schools as a child and joined many pop groups as an adult, with none amounting to any sort of success. She told 'Hello' magazine "I must have been in 25/30 bands and each time I thought it was going somewhere. It ruined my life. Each knock back made me weaker, not stronger like it should have".

Early music career[edit | edit source]

In 2009, Honey moved to the United Kingdom where she was offered a recording contract with Saturdays Records. Her previous knock-backs had taken their toll on Honey and, despite announcing and readily promoting her debut single, she released herself from her contract returning all of the money Saturdays Records had advanced her and returned to New York. Honey was then scoped out by Fusion Records in 2010 who agreed to give her as much time as she needed to record her debut album.

2010 -2012: debut single and Mafia[edit | edit source]

In mid 2010, Honey signed with Fusion Records and soon after began to promote her debut single, "Gone Til December". After attending counselling sessions for her anxiety in-between recording for the album, Honey was ready to release her debut single in 2011. She embarked on an intense 3 month promotional trail to promote 'Gone Til December' in both the UK & US. The single was a critical and chart success and charted at #4 in the UK & #9 in the US. Her debut album 'Mafia' ,and the single of the same name followed, and reached #5 on the UK album chart & #12 on Billboard 200. Later in 2011, Honey took her album to Germany where they were showing intense interest in her. She released the two UK singles plus Germany-only releases 'Amnesia' & 'Buy My Love/Scummudy Ert' in 2012. The album reached #1. Back in the UK, an Aurora Reed penned 'Got A Girlfriend' was released in the hope of re-igniting interest, but limped in at #10. In March, Honey participated in the Tango Challenge with Ashley! but due to commitments in Germany, was unable to promote as expected. Their single 'Scaredy Cat' reached #7 and was a moderate success. In June 2012, not even an Aurora Reed collaboration could secure a big hit for Honey, as 'Oh My!' reached #6 but fell out of the top 10 a week later. However, a re-release of 'Mafia', titled 'Miss Mafia', was a consistent seller throughout 2012 re-entering the top 10 sporadically throughout the year. When it fell out of the chart in August, it had sold over 695,000 copies and had been certified Platinum. Honey took the rest of the year off to focus on recording her second album.
