"Jigglypuff" is a song by British recording artist Candi. The song was written by Candi, who co-produced it alongside Dr.Luke, for Candi's debut studio album First Signs Of Sunlight (2011). It was released on January 23, 2012 through Blacklight Records as the fifth and final single from the standard edition of the album. The teen pop song is about a young female, who is treat badly by her man but still carries on loving him, despite the fact she deserves better and is "cute like a jigglypuff".

The single is a fan favourite, with a poll on Candi's website revealing it was the #1 most popular track on the album. To increase the buzz surrounding the single, Candi released "Intergalactic" as a promotional release alongside the single. Upon it's release, the single charted at #2 on the chart, becoming only Candi's second single to not reach #1. It did provide her with her second highest opening week sales however.

Background[edit | edit source]

Upon the release of “That's Hot”, a track titled "Happiness" was originally planned to be the B-side, however it was eventually added to Candi's tracklisting, and a track titled "Jigglypuff" replaced it as the b-side. However Candi's BFF Blonde Ambition and management team informed her she could have a massive hit on her hands if she upgraded it to her album, thus she did. Upon the album's tracklisting being revealed, many stated the title "Jigglypuff" as being the most eye-catching and the track they were most looking forward to hear. After the album's release, a poll on Candi's official site asked fans which track was their favourite, and "Jigglypuff" came first. It recieved a lot of petition to be released as a single, and eventually after being heavily rumoured to be both the third and fourth single, it was rumoured that either "Hold My Hand", "Intergalactic", "Jigglypuff" or "Android's Heartbeat" would be the fifth single. On 03 December, 2011, "Jigglpuff" was officially announced as the new single. The song itself, is about a girl who's man treats her badly, yet she still wants to be with him. It looks at the situation and summarises in a light hearted manner that she deserves better, as she is cute like a Jigglypuff. Jigglypuff, known in Japan as Purin, is a Pokémon species in Nintendo and Game Freak's Pokémon franchise which is well known for it's cute pink appearance.

Critical reception[edit | edit source]

Digital Spy reviewed the song, giving it 4/5 stars. In the review, they stated

"The record is a song to every girl, and how we're all beautiful," Candi declared when recently speaking about her new single 'Jigglypuff'. It's no secret that the breakout star of last year has a loyal passion for all things pink and cute, so it was only a matter of time before she penned an ode to her one true love. But after her last effort "PUSHIT" was a massive success in the charts, can this lastest First Signs Of Sunlight cut keep the drive alive?

"Every inch of me is perfection I know/ You'd be mad to let this go/ So come on, come on, Call my bluff/ I'm cute just like a Jigglypuff" Candi calls out over a suitably grand introduction of a sugar coated toe-tapping drum beat and delicate piano riff - and the result is the perfect song to sum up Candi. Defiant and epic, the track should appeal to everyone's sweet tooth, and ensure Candi's "hotties" (as she calls her fans) are more than happy coming into the New Year.

Music video[edit | edit source]

The video was due to premiere on Friday 20 January, 2012, however it's premiere date was then pushed back a day, and the a further two, however it did eventually premiere late on Monday 23 January 2012.

Candi in the video to "Jigglypuff"

The video begins where Candiis shown to be lying in her bed sleeping, ressembling a Disney princess, like a real life sleeping beauty. Suddenly the music to the song begins. Candi slowly opens her eyes to the music, and smirks at the camera. Candi sits by her mirror and applies some blusher, lip gloss and she also sorts out her hair. Also, beneath the mirror is Candi's range of eyelashes for product placement. Candi's servants in her house start showing her several dresses they have picked out for her to wear during the day. A black dress is shown to Candi, who looks at it in disgust, and the servant quickly shuffles off back to the clothes stand. The next dress brought over is a gold dress, covered in glitter. Candi shows a massive smile, and nods at the servant. She's ready to strut her stuff. Candi's luxary holiday home is shown, where all her party goers and servants are. She walks out dressed in her hot gold dress. She looks cute (like a Jigglypuff). Candi is greeted by her hunky servant who is carrying Babycakes. She gives the future chart topper a little tickle. The servant who offered Candi the fugly black dress, which was not pink or cute, offers Candi some fish. That's not cute like a Jigglypuff, hell no. The waiter next to Candi looks at the stupid fish woman as if she's a moron. Candi is offered grapes by a less moronic servant, however she still turns them down and isn't impressed. Hunky waiter and the waiter next to Candi both look at each other, because they know Candi ain't going to stand for what she's been put through today. Also Babycakes is wearing such a cute black veil on her head. Candi walks away from them all, and as she does, the camera briefly shows some alcoholic substance. A nice little hint of product placement there. Candi comes back out, dressed in a very tight all in one lavander outfit. In her hands she looks like she's holding some sort of spray gun. Candi begins spraying all the lazy people with the machine. As the official princess of all things hot and queen, she's ensuring these people follow in her footsteps and don't act like slouches in paradise Candi. The lazy slouches suddenly get up and all carry out a choreographed dance routines. It's pretty impressive. Candi then joins the dancers, now in a cute pink one-piece bikini. They carry out a complex but sexy dance routine. Candi is shown stood between two giant pink poodles, with a megaphone. The camera also zooms into her singing into the speaker, as well as posing with it. The rich and elite neighbours hear Jigglypuff through the speakerphone, and realistically nobody can resist it. So soon Candi's back yard is filled with all the hotties as they arrive for a Candi-styled party. All the men at the party line up, to try and impress Candi. One by one she walks by them, and pushes each one in the pool. She stops at the last guys, leans into him, and it looks like shes about to kiss him, however she then pushes him into the pool. The video ends with everyone enjoying one amazing party. Candi throws the best party! Also the giant poodles and staff are shown to be at the party too, as the camera gradually zooms away from behind them.

It then rose to #1, giving Candi only her second ever download #1 after "That's Hot" almost 1 year prior.
