Background[edit | edit source]

Following the release and success of the teaser digital download, "Burnin' Up", it was announced on 24, June 2013 that the first single would be entitled 'Army of Dance'. The single was penned by Ella during the summer of 2012 during the promotional tour for her final film. She flew over to London in November 2012 to record the track with Xenomania. The track was kept secret as Ella's upcoming album wasn't announced until early 2013 when she recorded the remainder of the album.

Promotion[edit | edit source]

The track was initially promoted in the United Kingdom as it was released there first. Following an extensive internet marketing campaign with VEVO, Ella flew over to London to promote the track. She appeared on Daybreak for a chat where she also performed the song. Following this, she performed on Lorraine, BBC Breakfast and appeared on Radio 1's Live Lounge where she covered 'Lost!' by Coldplay. During release week she performed a full gig at the Roundhouse in London where she performed a number of new tracks from her upcoming album.

Critical reception[edit | edit source]

According to a Metro publication, "Army of Dance" had a generally positive reaction from fans.Susana Novo Vásquez of The Huffington Post stated that "the indisputable team of Xenomania have been the ones to set the trends over the years for others to follow," adding that the song "continues down that path." Copsey criticized the distorted vocals and the fact that "there probably won't be a full album of new tracks to accompany it," but admitted that "it sounds modern enough for today's charts"

Music video[edit | edit source]

The music video was filmed in a studio in London in early July. Pictures were leaked to 'The Sun' which showed Ella standing around outside getting her last minute makeup done. The video premiered towards the end of the month. The video's concept was very studio based and had heavy dancing scenes with her three dancers duplicated to look like an army. She also used wigs to create several different characters throughout the song. Upon the premiere of the video, fans commented their enjoyment for it and were pleased with it. A week later it was announced that the video was going to be made available on iTunes along with a five minute behind-the-scenes documentary of the filming of the video. This topped the iTunes music videos chart for three weeks.
