Becca Hayworth, is one of the founding members of British Electro Dance-pop outfit Aftershock. She ventured into a solo career in 2010
After three studio albums, the band decided to take a break. During this break/hiatus, Becca decided to launch a solo career away from the Aftershock brand. She decided to ditch the band's trademark electro dance-pop flavouring in favour of a more contemporary US Urban-Pop sound.
According to Becca the decision to go solo and to go with a US Urban-Pop sound was reached after recording Offensive with Kelly Brown for Aftershock's Retrolexual Satisfaction album.
I wanted to record more material like Offensive and even release Offensive as a single but Darren and the management were dead set against the idea. They claimed that it was not in the best interest for the band. From that moment on I started demoing my own material and going with the sound I wanted.
Debut Solo Album (2010)[edit | edit source]
In February 2010 when Aftershock had released their second album, both Becca and the band went back to the studio. Becca's time was spent split between recording material for Aftershock's abandoned 4th studio album and her own debut album. During the last night of Aftershock's Retrolexual Lovers Live Tour, Becca performed her debut solo single Common Ground along with two other solo tracks, Undignified and If Looks Could Kill. It is unknown if either of the other two tracks will make the solo album or not.
On July 4th 2010 as well as performing with Aftershock on T4 On The Beach, Becca performed for the first time in public as a solo act. She performed three tracks on the second stage. Becca performed the debut single Common Ground along side a new track Accessory and a cover version.
On August 9th it was officially announced that Becca's second single would be the Adam Levine & Bruno Mars cowrite and Smeezingtons produced Psycho. An October 4th release date was also revealed. The single's release was eventually brought forward to September 13th. This change came about after it was announced that Becca would be competing in the 2010 series of Strictly Come Dancing.
A third single from the album was officially confirmed in late September for a December 6th release. However the actual details of what the third single would be were not revealed until October. When the details were revealed, it was announced that the Jentina written track and critics least favourite track, Hard Times would be the third single.
In late November Becca announced that she was expecting her first child. However she tragically suffered a miscarriage on Christmas Day 2010.
2011[edit | edit source]
At the start of 2011, Becca joined Fusion Records after a series of rows with Alias which lead to Becca's frustrations boing over and holding the label's head Esmerelda DiMuzzio hostage. Within days of signing to Fusion Records, Becca continued working on her second album. Using tracks she had recorded whilst under Alias' contract, Becca flew to L.A to meet with legendary producers Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis that had been the masterminds behind Janet Jackson's career.
It has been reported that Becca's sophomore album will be released in the second quarter of 2011 although no confirmed details have merged from the sessions or regarding the album itself.
On February 7th she released the final single from Afterlife in the form of a double a-side with L.E.X. The single She's Screaming / Unmake My Promises featured the Afterlife album track alongside a re-recording of the The Perfect Storm album track with a new vocal arrangement with added vocals from Becca.
On May 31st it was confirmed that Becca would be one of the three new judges for X Factor UK. She would fit her judging role around prescheduled commitments on Alesha's Heathen Tour and filming commitments on her first film The Comfort Of Strangers.
