Bette (born December 24, 2005 as Bapette Washington) is an American singer, songwriter, and fashion designer.
Early Life[edit | edit source]
Bette was born to singers Alex Washington and Hannah Bojwolb (of girl group Rapture), in December 2005. Conceived during the pair's appearance on CBS' Celebrity Big Brother in 2005, Bette's birth was shrouded in controversy, as it caused the breakup of Washington's romance with boyband member Michael Collock. Raised primarily in the public eye for the first six years of her life, Bette developed quickly for a child of her age, causing her father to presume she had Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome (SORAS) in 2011, mistaking her precociousness for rapid development.
In early 2012, her father, who was primarily responsible for raising her, stepped out of the spotlight, and the two settled into a quiet life in their large home outside Alderley Edge, Greater Manchester. Bette attended an all-girls academy, and dedicated the remainder of her time to music, and to tending to her mentally ill father, who suffered from depression and agoraphobia.

2021-present : Career beginnings & Bette[edit | edit source]
Bette was forced back into the spotlight in early 2021 when her father, Alex, sought to release a new album after a ten year absence from the music scene. Suddenly back in the spotlight when her father disappeared to LA without warning, Bette reportedly became fed up with her father's antics, and filed for emancipation from her father's custody, seeking to live with Alex Washington's former partner, Paulo Araujo and his husband, Raphael Monaghan.
Once the emancipation was granted, Bette formally changed her name from Bapette, and began recording her debut studio album, Bette, which was released June 11, 2021. The album, largely consisting of dance-oriented pop tracks and introspective ballads, was produced by an all-star collection of A-listers, including legendary production team Knobfeelers, Riker Allen, and up-and-coming singer/rapper/producer La'Shawn. The album received rave reviews, and debuted at #1 the same week as the album's second single, "Big Girl", hit #1. Bette has so far sold in excess of 1,900,000 copies in the UK alone, and has been a massive success in America as well.
