"Broken Bridge" is a single from American singer/songwriter Elice Claire. As her first major release, the song is generally considered her debut single. Released in early-2008, the single peaked at number-two on the Urapopstar Single Charts, becoming Claire's first top three hit.
Song information[edit | edit source]
Broken Bridge was written by Elice Claire and it was recorded in Miami in the winter of 2007. It was the first song Elice completed since her unknown demo "Love Life Affair". The song is a mid-tempo ballad with a 2000's pop throwback, much like something Jessica Simpson would've done for her 'In This Skin' Album session.
According to Claire, the song is about "being lost and not knowing what to do when you are torn apart". The song starts off rather angry, as it asks her lover for the "truth" and trying to get this lover [possibly an ex] to understand the point she is trying to make. As the song moves from verse one to the pre-chorus, Elice is trying to move on, however her so called "love" pulls her back trying to make everything better even though there's nothing he can do to fix their relationship. The chorus starts and that's when you get "sort of twisted in the middle of the message." According to Elice, she wanted to explain what she was feeling in a code-like manner that only she can understand.
Music video[edit | edit source]
Two versions of the music video were made. The first version, the UK version was shot in united states during the first week of march 2008. The video shows Elice in a ballroom waiting for her date to arrives. Throughout the video, Elice hallucinates about her date until he finally shows up in the end of the video. The second version is the International version. Version two was shot in December 2007 to accompany the release of the single in the United States. This version is more complex and it shows Elice standing in a old bridge, in an imaginary dark garden, where everything Elice touches turns into ashes. According to Claire, the American version doesn't exactly have a plot.
