Cassie Garcia (born Cassandra Diane Garcia, August 30, 1986) is an American singer best known as one third of R&B girl group Moodring.
Early life[edit | edit source]
Cassie was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, USA to a Cuban Mother Diana and Puerto Rican Father, who has never been named in the press. She has an older brother, Alejandro (b. 1984) who works as a director. Cassie grew up in New Jersey and attended Lincoln High School. Her public debut came in 2002 at a memorial where she sang a song she had written n reaction to a gang related school shooting on her campus. This was to an audience of 1000s which included a talent scout who picked her up for the quality of her writing as well as her vocal abilities and suggested she play bars. From 2002-2006, with the help of her brother, Cassie toured bars throughout New Jersey and New York and in 2008 she moved to the UK with her brother who had secured a job in London. She soon started working as a songwriter for other artists, including her friend Maria Rose.
Moodring[edit | edit source]
In September 2008 Cassie and her friend Maria Rose met 28 year old Bre Washington whilst working on a song for Maria. The trio clicked and decided to form a group. In April 2009 they released their first single Alive. Maria left the group and Bre had her third child, Chastité Monique (b. October 8, 2009). The group returned in 2010 with new member L'mondrea and became one of the biggest selling girl groups. For more information see: Moodring.
Solo Career[edit | edit source]
Cassie is the only Moodring member not to feature on any other records as a solo artist or release any solo material.
Personal life[edit | edit source]
In April 2010, Cassie entered in to a relationship with Kirby L. Avalon whilst working with him on the Tango Challenge. The relationship was rocky as Kirby felt jealous that Cassie seemed to have an obsession with fellow popstar Emily Henning. Cassie later confirmed she just idolised Emily and is heterosexual. Later that year Cassie gave birth to her daughter Emily Snowflake (b. December 26, 2010) and confirmed that Kirby was not the father of the child, as it was evident the Father was not Caucasian. Cassie has never openly stated who the Father is. From April 2011 to Decemeber 2012 Cassie was in a relationship with another man, whose identity Cassie has not revealed to the press. Cassie has stated that her personal life has "nothing to do with anyone but her" and is thus secretive about her friendships and relationships with people outside of the public eye.
Despite being seen as "stupid" by the public, Cassie states "I just don't think before I speak" and her seemingly lack of intelligence is counteracted by her being an accomplished songwriter, writing for several different artists.
