The song is due for release on 15 July 2013, several weeks before the release of the singer's debut album "Papermade Hearts". Background[edit | edit source]

On 28 May 2013, a press release was announced revealing Aimee's third single and album would be released on 15 July 2013. Stevens spoke about the single, stating: "I can't reveal too much yet, but it's a lot more in your face than the my past singles. After hearing it you won't be able to forget it, no matter how much you want too." On 07 June 2013, music website Popjustice were given the promo disc of the track, were they revealed the promo cover and the single title as "Cherryade". They described the song as "filthy" and stated the song see's Aimee sing about her need for getting her cherry popped.

The song premiered on BBC Radio 1 on 24 June 2013, although the radio-edit was heavily edited due to the lyrical content. The explicit version was uploaded to Aimee's official Vevo Channel on the same day.

Critical reception[edit | edit source]

Before the song's premiere, Popjustice were given an exclusive first listen of the song, where they declared they were "still undecided if the song is pure genius, or just an absolute mess". They also revealed four lines from the song, seeing Aimee singing about sex without a condom, and hitting her g-spot.

Music video[edit | edit source]

Aimee in a scene for the video

The music video to "Cherryade" was uploaded onto Aimee's Vevo page in the early hours of 22 July 2013.

The video is quite simple. It begins with an empty dance studio. Aimee walks in with her gym bag, and headphones in, listening to prior single "We've Got A Problem". She sits down on a chair and changes into a more sexy outfit. She plugs her ipod into a pink BeatBox and the intro to "Cherryade" begins.

Facing one wall which is just a giant mirror, Aimee dances (rather sexually) to a choreographed dance routine, appearing as if she is simply training. Gradually, she looses layers of clothing as she gets hot. There are also various shots of her singing against the mirror.

By the end of the video, Aimee is dancing in simply her lingerie, and interacting with objects as she dances, such as straddling the chair she earlier sat on. As the song ends, Aimee grabs her gym bag and leaves the room again with her headphones in, however she leaves behind her clothes and struts out in her in bra and knickers.
