"Don't Turn Your Back" is the third single from Amy Marshall's debut album Amy Marshall. Written by Esmeralda Dimuzio, this is considered by many of Amy's fans to be the best track on the album.
Song information[edit | edit source]
The song tells a story about a woman whose lover stood her up on a date for another woman, and the woman can tell what's going on based on his treatment of her and the fact she is being completely ignored.
The video[edit | edit source]
The video was filmed in Toronto, Canada in mid-January 2005. In the video, Amy's boyfriend does not show up for a date, and this one single event leads to a series of more angry events for Amy. When her boyfriend follows her down the street, she ignores him. When she sees a newspaper with a headline saying her boyfriend was caught cheating, she throws it at the camera. When she sees dust on the keys of her piano, she breaks it into a million pieces. When she sees roses on her doorstep, she steps on them until they're blown apart. And when she sees a reflection of her boyfriend in the mirror, she shoots the mirror. The end sequence shows Amy's boyfriend walking up to her on the street, as Amy shows him her new boyfriend. He walks away only to be hit by a car.
The violent images in the video led for MTV and VH1 to pull it from their rotation after receiving complaints. However, it was a big hit on Yahoo! Music.
