Dustin Hadley is an American singer and Youtube personality. He is known for being the son of Chace Hadley, vocalist for Audiodrama. In late 2014, Dustin had his first foray into the music industry when he collaborated with his father on the "Father x Son" EP. Dustin was featured on two duet tracks with his father and also contributed the solo track "Easy As Life".
Personal History[edit | edit source]
Dustin Lance Hadley was born on the 3rd of July, 1998 in South Beach, Miami; he was the result of an unplanned teen pregnancy between his father Chace and his mother, Chace's high school girlfriend. The couple used a condom, and somehow neither of them noticed that it broke during intercourse. Dustin never knew his mother, because she died in childbirth from complications due to her young age. Dustin was then raised jointly by his father and his grandparents while Chace completed high school. Chace and Dustin relocated to New York where Chace was furthering his studies in classical music. It was in New York that Chace met and began dating Matt Severide, whom Dustin would eventually come to consider his second father. Matt would follow Chace and Dustin when they moved back to South Beach after Chace completed his studies.
Dustin became interested in music due to his dad's own musical pursuits, and began learning to play guitar when he was 12. Dustin has not had any formal training like his father has, and his interest in music is geared more toward modern and commercial fare, in contrast to Chace's upbringing on the classical genre. Dustin began recording his own covers of popular songs and uploading them on the internet to Youtube and Soundcloud when he was 15, gaining attention following Audiodrama's breakthrough once he was recognized as being Chace Hadley's son.
Music[edit | edit source]
"Father x Son" EP[edit | edit source]
Audiodrama were hired by Lady Lou to provide the score for her movie "Blood Trophies". Some of their ideas for instrumental pieces were abandoned during the scoring process, but Dustin later worked with his father to re-visit and expand upon his ideas. One of these ideas was for a vocal theme that would be heard instrumentally in the movie itself with the vocal version to play in the credits. Warner Brothers scrapped the idea because they wanted Lou to sing on the proposed vocal track. Audiodrama opposed the studio and refused to sign the licensing agreement so the song was dropped. This would later become "Child Of Man", which was recorded at first by Chace on his own, but with some convincing Dustin also recorded a version, which Katrina combined into the final duet version. A second duet, "Generation Xerox", was intentionally written and recorded as a duet when Chace made the decision to release some music with his son. That song was again built on unused musical ideas from the scoring of "Blood Trophies".
Chace and Dustin decided to call the EP "Father x Son" because it was a project between the two of them. Despite Katrina's reduced involvement, it still bears the Audiodrama name because it includes the track "I Don't Want It" to support the duo's album, Dustin contributed a solo track, "Easy As Life" to balance out the EP. Dustin didn't write the track himself, instead it was penned for him by Raphael Monaghan and Violetta DiNozzo, based on conversations he had with them about his life in South Beach as the child of two gay fathers. Upon release in the UK, the EP impacted at #3 on the singles chart, while "Generation Xerox" topped the digital chart. "Generation Xerox" has also peaked at #3 on the airplay chart and "Easy As Life" is also charting at radio with a special digital release of it's own on November 17th. Videos for both "Generation Xerox" and "Easy As Life" have been completed and are to premiere soon.
Personal Life[edit | edit source]
Dustin does not currently have an active career in the music industry, still attending public school in South Beach. He took time off school in order to shoot the videos for the "Father x Son" EP however, but he has no intention of leaving school in order to further pursue music. Dustin is becoming known as a Youtube personality, having started a weekly vlog talking about his life both as the son of a celebrity and as the son of a gay couple. Dustin has used his Youtube channel to talk about things such as his ventures in music with his father, the bullying and harassment he's received due to having gay parents, and how Chace's celebrity has impacted on him in more recent times.
Dustin is friends with Chace's musical partner Katrina Benson, and his father's close friendship group which consists of Raphael Monaghan and Violetta DiNozzo. Dustin has also used his Youtube vlogs to talk about what it's like to know major stars on a personal level.
