"Echoes Of Love" is a single by bassist/producer James Moss, featuring guest vocals by Kleo. The song was released as the third American single from James' debut solo album "Jameson Dominic", replacing "When A Heart Brakes" as the ballad single in the US. It was released in July, and was also released in the UK as a digital promo single. The song was a minor digital success in the UK (overshadowed by 4th UK single "Gentleman Never Tells") but is currently shaping up to be another big hit for James stateside, following the #1 success of "Kingdom Hearts" on the Billboard Hot 100.
Background[edit | edit source]
"Echoes Of Love" was written by James to be a duet with Kleo; after having worked together on the song "Starlight" which Kleo penned for him. Kleo agreed to be featured on the ballad, and it was recorded for "Jameson Dominic". It was later chosen to be a single in America after James' US label decided that they didn't want "When A Heart Brakes" to be the ballad single there. "Echoes Of Love" was chosen to be the third American single in its stead, as announced by James in July. The music video for "Echoes Of Love" was shot that same month, and was released in time for the song's release as a digital-only promo single in the UK. With Kleo's efforts to crack the US market, appearing with James on a track while he was enjoying major success was seen as a beneficial move for Kleo; as James' high profile and hype could boost Kleo's status in America.
Reception[edit | edit source]
The news of the single's release was met favourably, what with the two stars being major players in the UK market at the time; since the song was not being released as full single, hype was somewhat relaxed. The song mainly found favour only with the loyal fanbases of the two artists, with the song not generating a high level of sales on the UK digital charts. Off the back of his US #1 hit "Kingdom Hearts", American audiences were far more hyped up for the release, with many showing curiosity over Kleo due to increased awareness. The song has been steadily growing on American iTunes and has already hit gold sales; the hype and curiosity should soon translate into an increase in airplay.

Music Video[edit | edit source]
We can see a woman’s hand (Kleo’s) pulling one end of a Newton’s cradle; the sound of its clicking acts as a metronome which keeps time with the piano intro of the song then fades out as the camera pans across to a mirror, where we see James sitting alone in a chair looking pensive. The camera pans across the mirror and into the room itself where James is sitting, and the camera rotates around him while he sings his first verse, ignoring the camera’s presence. During the chorus, we see James alone still, doing mindless things to pass the time. He’s seen throwing a tennis ball against a wall and catching it, and when he gets bored with that he goes into another room where he picks up a can of black paint and tosses its contents against a large white easel, splattering it with paint. Throughout the entire sequence James seems detached and emotionless.
As the chorus ends the camera pans over to Kleo who is silently watching James through an open doorway. He doesn’t seem to see her, so she turns around and walks into another room. With the lights dark, she picks up a widow’s veil and places it on her head as she sings her verse, just examining items around the room and also ignoring the camera as it moves and follows her. During Kleo’s solo chorus we see her sitting alone in a room with a chair; however she’s on the floor leaning against the chair, and she sings as the camera moves around her. There are other shots of her performing in silhouette as she moves through different positions with her body.
During the bridge is when we see James and Kleo on-camera for the first time together. James is back in the chair from before looking pensive, but this time we see that he’s looking at Kleo who is standing elegantly at the other side of the room. With distance between them, they sing the bridge to each other. Over the instrumental section we see various clips of scenes from earlier in the video. When we reach the final chorus, Kleo and James are now holding each other in a close embrace and are singing to each other as the camera circles around them. The last part of the chorus ends with them in a dark room lit only by a swinging light, which revolves around them as they silently hold each other.
Chart Performance[edit | edit source]
In the UK, "Echoes Of Love" peaked at #12 on the digital chart, and stayed on-chart for three weeks while never breaking the top 10 (James' full single "Gentleman Never Tells" was experiencing the greater share of his digital sales). The digital single has been a minor success for James. In the US, the song had already sold a relatively small amount due to digital album sales, but has been slowly gaining momentum on US iTunes following its release as a single. It currently is beginning to find traction at US radio, and has currently sold over 500k digitally, enough to be certified gold by the RIAA.
