Elice à l'infini Live is a residency show by American recording artist Elice Claire, performed at the Opéra Royal de Versailles located in the Palace of Versailles in Versailles, France. The show is considered Elice's fifth and final tour to promote her greatest hits album Veni Vidi Vixi.
Background[edit | edit source]
Locking her fifth anniversary with a golden key, Elice performed for five weeks at the grandiose Palace of Versailles. Elice is the first act to perform at the Opera for multiple dates. The residency show included 20 dates, which started on March 28 and ended on April 26, 2014. Furthermore as a celebration as well as a farewell to her music career, Bellamy invited five of her friends to perform duets with her on 5 specific dates.
"I'm very humbled and thrilled to have these five incredible individuals appearing in what will be my farewell concert tour. I don't think I would've reached this far in my career without these legends. I owe so much to them, because with them, I grew so much artistically and personally (...) I think being with them on stage singing together will be bittersweet, and I'm sure I'll be shedding some tears. I couldn't ask for a better way to wrap up my career. I'm genuinely grateful for everything" ——Elice discusses the collaboration with her friends on NRJ radio Paris. |
On March 29, Country singer Lindsay Belle, who also released a duet with Elice called "Think Twice, Think Thrice" will make an appearance. On April 5, Brazilian R&B star Paulo Araujo, who's been friends with Elice since she started her career in 2008 will make his appearance on the show. On April 12, Alternative-rock singer and Uraps Factor winner Pandora, who also opened Elice's 2013 World Tour will appear on the show. April 19, Adult contemporary singer Ben Johnston, who dueted with Elice in her best seller "Scattered Echoes" will make an appearance. On April 26, the final show, Pop singer and Elice's well known best friend Helena Rossi, who dueted with the singer multiple times will make her appearance. During her interview with NRJ radio Paris, Elice revealed that her initial plan was to have 20 guests, one for each date of the tour. The plan however didn't work out as it would be difficult to have her friends travel to Paris to attend the show.
On March 26, 2014, just days before the first show, Bellamy announced that the final show will be streamed for free on her website. When asked by fans on her official blog if she had plans to release a video of the Versailles show, Elice said that she would not be releasing a dvd for it. Bellamy explained that the live stream on her website would be the last and only opportunity for fans who couldn't attend the shows to catch her live.
March 29 - show review[edit | edit source]
Similarly to her acclaimed residency show at the Royal Albert Hall in 2012, the Versailles show followed the same classical format but with some exciting twists. Unlike the choreography, outfit, and stage crazed rendezvous we got from her ECV 2013 World Tour, the Versailles show was more like a laid back classical concert, featuring a full orchestra and a 12-piece choir.
The show, divided into 3 different sets and an encore, was filled with hits from all five of Elice's records. The show's opener was a orchestral solo piece of Elice's debut single, "Broken Bridge" which lasted for about three minutes. Towards the end of the piece, Elice enters the stage wearing a small white and golden dress. She address everyone in both French and English. She thanks and welcomes everyone to what she calls "an intimate farewell show."
The orchestra begins to play her latest "À l'infini," to which she stands behind a music stand that's holding some papers and a microphone. The first set, includes: 'À l'infini (French/English version)', 'Mon destin douce (C'est une belle vie)', 'Reverie', 'Cloud Nine' and 'Scattered Echoes'. After she sings 'Reverie,' she introduces the following song, which she dedicates to her father whom passed away. As she finishes her first set, she exits the stage for approx. 10 minutes. She returns with a new outfit (Jeans and a t-shirt) and with her guest for the night, singer Lindsay Belle.
Elice introduces Lindsay to the crowed and talk about their friendship. The curtain rises up and we can see that the orchestra and choir are gone. We see 4 stools in a half circle and two musicians with acoustic guitars taking two of the seats. Both Elice and Lindsay approach the musicians and take a sit. Elice introduce the musicians to the crowed and explain that they were going to perform a duet acoustic set. Elice performs 'Seize the Day' with Lindsay providing ad-libs and background. Following, Elice and Lindsay perform duets for 'Someone Else', 'Manifest of the Eccentric', 'Think Twice, Think Thrice' and 'Keepin' U Up. On the last song of the set, 'Paris, l'amour et moi (Ooh la la)', Lindsay provides more ad-libs. As the song finishes, Elice stands up and asks the crowed to give a hand of applause for Lindsay Belle. An emotional Elice and Lindsay embrace in tears as the lights dim down and the curtain closes.
Approx. 8 minutes later, Elice returns to the stage with a new outfit (a blue dress). She speaks with the crowed for a while before the curtain rises again and reveals the orchestra, who begins to play 'Empire of the Falling Star'. The first part of the set, includes some of the orchestra and electric guitar to the songs: 'Bittersweet Dayfall' and 'Collision'. After Elice finishes 'Collision' she walks towards the pit, as the curtain falls, she speaks with the crowed for a few minutes and the curtain rises again with the full orchestra and the 12-piece choir. Elice walks over to the music stand and flips a paper, she looks back at to the orchestra and gives a nod as they begin playing 'A Love to Remember'. After Elice finishes that song, she introduces the next one, which is a new song called 'Harvest of the Heart,' she dedicates the song to her husband Isaac Bellamy who so happen to be sitting in a box right next to the stage, she blows him a kiss and say "je t'aime mon chéri". The following songs on the setlist are: 'Letters from a Broken Heart', 'Forever's Not for Always', 'Safe Haven' and 'Never Let Go'. Before singing 'Never Let Go,' Elice thanks everyone for coming and for giving life to all of her dreams. After Elice sings the song, the room blacks out as Elice exits the stage. The orchestra continues to play an extended classical piece of the song for another 3 mins. The lights are turned on again after the song stops.
Approx. 10 minutes later, the curtain rises and Elice is seen sitting down in a stool wearing a light white gown while holding a microphone. The orchestra begins to play a different version of 'À l'infini,' Elice, with her eyes shut, begins to sing (she sings the chorus, middle-8 and final chorus). After she is done the orchestra begins to play 'Zero Gravity'. Elice rises from her stool and walks towards the pit as she sings the song. The orchestra continues to play an extended piece of the song as Elice walks back and sits by a piano. When the orchestra finishes playing the song, Elice begins to play 'Valediction' in the piano. With tears rolling down her cheeks, and her voice breaking she performs the song. As she finishes, she stands up and walks towards the pit and bow to the crowed. The orchestra begins playing a classical piece of "Valediction" and Elice repeats the chorus two more times.
Finally Elice welcomes back Lindsay Belle, and her two guitarists to the stage. The choir walks over to the pit and the orchestra from the back stands up as they all bow to the crowed, who are on their feet. In the background the orchestra begins to play another unreleased song and Elice, Lindsay and the choir sings as confetti starts to fall. Everyone walks behind the curtain singing the last song, as the orchestra finishes the curtain lowers down as the lights dim.[1]
