False Hopes is the first single from Esmeralda Dimuzio's forthcoming album, Unfinished Business. The single is Esmeralda's first in a year, released a year to the week after her previous single, Nothing Left To Say.
The single starts off with a slow intro, then upon the first chorus, it becomes an uptempo electropop stomper. Esmeralda wrote it about people who ask for false hopes in saving a relationship, but Esmeralda would rather end it now rather than being dishonest for the sake of the relationship turning out worse in the end.
The video features Esmeralda meeting up with a mystery man in Mexico; after going shopping, she meets up with the mystery man, who then lets her down and they walk away from each other in the end.
The single is also known for its remixes; Miss Drips supplied a rap for the official hip-hop mix, while UpTempo also supplied a dance remix that will appear on the bonus disc of their upcoming album.
Chart Performance[edit | edit source]
The single reached the #1 spot on the URAPS Airplay 40 on March 1, 2009, becoming her sixth airplay #1. It was #3 on pre-release on its release week.
On the official singles chart, it entered at #2 on March 8, 2009, behind only Jack Stevens and selling 99,934 copies. It has since been certified platinum, and became Esmeralda's best-selling single ever, selling 329,975 copies as of May 3, 2009.
