"Far Away" is a song by Canadian R&B singer Jackson Bradshaw which features American rapper L.E.X.. Written by Bradshaw, Cerise + Victor member and Bradshaw's frequent songwriting partner Stephanie Kesh, and L.E.X. and produced by Kesh, the original album version of the single did not feature L.E.X. "Far Away" will be released on November 4, 2013 as the third single from Bradshaw's sophomore album Take You Higher. The single's release will also coincide with L.E.X.'s new film Identity which also features Bradshaw in a supporting role.
To date, the song has received positive reviews from critics. "Far Away" has so far charted at #4 on the UK Pre-Release Chart.
A music video has been planned for the single, though it is unknown if L.E.X. will appear in the video.
"Far Away" marks the third time that L.E.X. and Bradshaw have collaborated for a song, the first time being on L.E.X.'s track from his album Lionheart titled "Queen of Ice" and Bradshaw's single version for "Cold", which was released earlier in 2013.
Background[edit | edit source]
"Far Away" appears as the fifth track on Bradshaw's sophomore album Take You Higher. The original album version of the song does not contain a rap verse by L.E.X. or any other guest vocal and features Bradshaw's vocals alone.
Bradshaw had always planned on releasing "Far Away" as a single and initially decided to later release it in October 2013. When he found out that the film he would be in, Identity, would be released that same month, he contacted L.E.X., the film's star, to feature on the single version of "Far Away". L.E.X. wrote and recorded his verse in under 30 to 45 minutes and he raps during the middle eight, which on the album version was originally an instrumental section.
"Far Away" marks the third time that L.E.X. and Bradshaw have collaborated musically. Bradshaw was a guest vocalist on L.E.X.'s song "Queen of Ice" for his Lionheart album and L.E.X. featured on the single version of Bradshaw's "Cold" earlier in 2013. L.E.X. also chose Bradshaw as his first choice to play the part of a retired CIA agent in their new film Identity.
Promotion and release[edit | edit source]
Bradshaw admitted that he wanted to release the single version of "Far Away" with L.E.X. because their film Identity was about to be released. Bradshaw scheduled the single for an October 2013, the same month that Identity would be release.
Initially, the single was supposed to be released on October 21, 2013 but was pushed back a week to October 28, 2013. Bradshaw then pushed the single back to November 4, 2013 as its final release date. Bradshaw admitted he moved the release date for the third time to have more time to promote it and also "out of respect" for L.E.X., who was releasing his single "Throne" on the same day.
It is unknown if "Far Away", the single version featuring L.E.X., will be featured on the soundtrack for Identity, though Bradshaw has hinted that he submitted it for the film's soundtrack.
