Filth
Filth is the sophomore studio album by English pop singer Brett Clarkson. The album was released in 2011 and is a follow-up to his 2009's successful debut Sabotage. The album would be Brett's final independent release as he would be signed to Next Generation Records in 2012. The album reached #1 on the albums charts and has been certified Platinum to date.
The album would be a turning point for Clarkson's career and is a big departure from the style and image from his debut album. Whereas his debut album provided a sassy, spunky, and bitchy side of Clarkson, Filth is known to explore a more sexual side of him. Indeed, Filth heavily includes lyrical elements of sex, lust, and hedonism and is mostly full of sexual innuendos. The album also showed a more playboy-esque side of Clarkson this time around, whereas he once was a spunky but "kind-of-nice guy next door". Filth was praised by critics, fans, and Clarkson's contemporaries and got overwhemingly positive reviews; Clarkson was praised for taking his career and image into a new direction and was often seen as the "male version of Bella-May". The album is known to help further popularize the sub-genre of "slut pop" (which is sexually-oriented pop music) which was first popularized by Bella-May hence the comparison. The album was re-released in late 2011/early 2012 as ...A Little Bit More Filth.
The album spawned a series of singles which all performed very well on the singles chart and would further prove that Clarkson was a turning point in his career. Whereas the singles from his previous era reached the top five or top ten, none of them reached the top three or even number one as the singles from Filth. The album spawned three number one singles ("Lollipop", the double A side "S.T.R.I.P."/"Hero In My Nightmares", and "Saxophone") and two other top two singles. "Saxophone", which is actually the lead single from the album's re-release ...A Little Bit More Filth, is considered his signature hit and his best-selling single to date.
