Heart Of The Matter is Moodring's 8th UK single and fourth to be released on Fusion Records. It is the second to be released from the reissue of Mood Swings and will be released on February 21st. The single became Moodring's second #1.
Background[edit | edit source]
Heart Of The Matter was first included on the Enter The Ring Vol.1 EP which was packaged with the I Know That I'm Sexy (Don't Tell Me)/Gonna Make You Beg single. It was proposed by Hailey as a duet, and the group loved it so much it made the reissue of the album. It was chosen as the final single from the album in January 2011. It is a cover of the Don Henley classic, but is more akin to the India.Arie version.
Release and reception[edit | edit source]
When the single and proposed artwork was released, it got a negative response, however after a few live performances and a change in artwork, popularity of the single started to pick up and Moodring were predicted their second number one by some critics. This chance of success was backed up by Moodring coming second in UPAPS rate and winning Best Group and Best Urban in URAPS awards.
Promotion[edit | edit source]
Moodring performed the song at URAPS awards, along with biggest seller Dirty Dirty. However during the promotion for this single Moodring lost several promotional details due to negative press attention.
Music video[edit | edit source]
The music video was directed by Floria Sigismondi who directed "Loving Me To Death" and continues with the new artistic concept. In the video all four women play princesses who have lost their loved ones and were now confined to a tower each. They see their loved ones die in the arms of other women and three of the women (Bre, Cassie, Hailey) perish after seeing this sight, one turns to stone, another glass and the third wood. However the fourth princess, played by L'mondrea fights against the pain and manages to save her loved one before his death, even though he doesn't love her in return. Throughout the majority of the video, everything is black and white, but L'mondrea's dress slowly glows red towards the end, then when she kisses her past love, the whole world turns to colour, but only breifly as she is left heartbroken. The video gained a similar response to Loving Me To Death.
