Joey Nicholson (born Joesph Edward Nicholson on 16 October 1988), is a British singer and songwriter who is a member and vocalist of alternative rock boyband Jetfire. Nicholson sings lead on several of the band's material and always plays lead guitar.

Career[edit | edit source]

Nicholson attended high school with his two best friends Aaron Dixon and Mikey Thompson. The boys formed a band in their final year, and enlisted Sean Cotes, a boy in the year below them to join the band too, due to being aware of his guitar playing skills. After finishing school with 10 GCSE's and 3 A Levels, the boys decided to try and break into the music bussiness. From 2009 to 2011 they managed to secure many small local gigs, but were unable to get a major label signing.

Before their fame, the band would post YouTube videos online, in the hopes of gaining more notice. Eventually they discovered a new talent show named The Uraps Factor, which was looking for auditionees in the Summer of 2011. The boys applied, not realising quite how enormous the show was going to become. Out of 192,000 entries, the band made it all the way to the live finals, were they were eliminated in the quarter final, finishing in 5th place.

Straight after appearing on the show, several labels showed strong interest in signing the boys, however the boys decided to sign with Next Generation Records, a fairly new label which focused on new and exciting music. In 2012, the boys released their self-titled debut album "Jetfire" which spawned four singles, "Tears In Your Eyes" which charted at #5 on the singles chart, "Turn Back Time" which gave the boys their first #1 single, "Midnight Trail" which peaked at #2 and "Dim The Lights" which gave the group their second #1 hit.

The band released their second album "Counting The Stars" in June 2016, alongside the lead single "Little Black Book", both of which charted at #1 in the UK and launched the band to international success. As of January 2017, the band have sold over five million records in the UK alone.

Asides from his songwritting and performing, Nicholson is known to do a small amount of DJing, and occasionally produces the bands tracks.

Joey is currently the only single member of Jetfire, which is most likely due to the fact he enjoys the single life, and doesn't want to settle down. He's best known for his confident, cocky, cheeky and flirty personality. Nicholson is regarded as the most chatty member of the band, often talking throughout interviews, not giving much chance for his bandmates to speak. He gets excited rather easily and appears to be the most immateur member of the band, with the other members (Aaron in particular) often have to apologise to people Joey offends with his comments.
