"Midnight Trail" is a song by British pop rock band Jetfire. Written by band members Sean Cotes, Aaron Dixon, Joey Nicholson and Mikey Thompson and also produced by Nicholson, the song was released as the band's third single on 18 February 2013 in the UK and Ireland taken from their self-titled debut album, Jetfire. The song's subject documents the period of time someone goes through after ending a relationship. The single was distributed by Next Generation Records.

The single managed to receive positive reviews for its lyrical content, being regarded as the album's highlight. Upon its commercial release in the UK, the single peaked at #2 in the UK in it's second week, after an initial debut at #7 on the charts.

Background[edit | edit source]

"Midnight Trail" was originally first available upon the release of "Jetfire" in July 2012, as the second track on the album. After proving to be a fan favourite, and recieving very strong praise from critics, the song was planned to be released as the band's second single, however when Children In Need requested Jetfire record "Turn Back Time" with Difused, plans to release "Midnight Trail" were pushed back. The release of "Midnight Trail" is also to help promote the band's tour "The Gods of Rock Tour", which begind the week after the single's release. It was originally due to be released on 04 February, however the release was pushed back two weeks in order to give the band more time to promote.

Release and reception[edit | edit source]

Lewis Corner of Digital Spy blog gave the song a positive review stating:

"It's true what they say, when a relationship starts to fail, It's time to pack your bags and take the midnight trail," hearthrob Aaron Dixon gushes on Jetfire's latest single, which is arguably the best from their album. It's another heart-shattering ode to a past love, similar to the band's debut smash 'Tears In Your Eyes', though given the song's chart success, the band certainly have a lot to be happy about at the moment. But while the four-piece fail to return with a more positive outlook, their ear for a guitar-pop stadium filler remains second to none. "Our love is over but my life can begin again, Just close your heart and count to ten," they croon as you just want to put your lighters in the air; and with another stellar track under their worn, brown leather belts, we suspect they won't be coming down any time soon. 4/5 stars.

Music video[edit | edit source]

The music video premiered on 03 February 2013.

The video begins in a house. Aaron is shown sat at a table with a beautiful woman. The pair are sat in silence as they eat their food, sharing the occasional glance. “This isn't working anymore is it” the woman asks, not looking up from her plate. Aaron puts down his cutlery. “We can make it work” he replies looking at her and he reaches his hand across and places it on top of hers. “We can't Aaron, I've, I've met someone else” the woman says, still not looking at him as she pulls her hand away. The introduction to the song begins as scenes in the house are shown, between the couple yelling at one another, Aaron chucking the plates of the table and sitting at the table with his head in his hands. As the intro ends and the lyrics begin, Aaron walks out of the house and walks in the darkness, singing the lyrics to the song.

Scenes are shown in an abandoned warehouse of the band together playing their instruments as they sing the lyrics to the song. This scene is briefly shown throughout the whole video.

Continuing his walk, Aaron walks through streets, as one by one, the other members of the band walk out of houses and join him in walking the “midnight trail”. Eventually the four boys are shown walking through a dark forest as they continue to sing the song. They continue to walk in gloomy places throughout the song, being hit with strong winds and rain in certain scenes, but nether less they keep walking. Eventually as the song reaches the end, the boys continue walking, and are shown walking into the distance, as a sign is shown pointing in the direction they have walked, stating “To a new beginning”.
