Mirror Mirror is the second studio album written and recorded by British artist Cesca Leigh, released on 23 March 2015 through Fusion Records. Leigh signed a deal with Fusion at the end of 2014 to support the release of Mirror Mirror, the follow up to the independently released Dirty Talk of 2013.

Set up as a concept album, Mirror Mirror was idealised as a story of Cesca Leigh's lovers, with each track written about and dedicated to a different man in her life, with whom she has had a sexual encounter with. The album features guest appearances from Paulo Arajuo and Jean-Luc, with whom she has stated to have sexual relationship with, reconfirmed with the latter when she featured on his track, Scream For Me. The album was written entirely by Leigh in 2014, and recorded between July 2014 and February 2015. It was confirmed by Cesca that over 30 songs has been written for the collection, announcing the possibility of a potential repackaging. A fourth single - the title and opening track of the collection - is set for release in August.

The album has thus far has three singles lifted from it - Fawesome, Fruity Pussy and For The Night, all of which charted in the top five and experienced moderate success. During opening week, the album charted at number 1, shifting 108,756 copies, a surprise to Leigh and the record label who almost delayed the release due to fears of the Urapopstar Awards 26 (which occurred just hours before) jeopardising sales and chart position.

Background and Development[edit | edit source]

Following the independent release of her debut album Dirty Talk in 2013, Leigh was hotly contested by major labels Fusion Records and Blacklight Records after her breakout success, string of top five hits and unique personality. Leigh eventually settled with Fusion Records to oversee the release of her sophomore album and its supporting singles, despite rumoured relations with Jean-Luc from Blacklight Records.

Writing and recording for the new album began in the summer of 2014, with Cesca promising more of the same sexual themes and lyrics from the first album, stepped up to the next levels. Leigh announced plans during the promotion of the final track from the first album to create a concept album, in which she writes about and reflects upon the all her male sexual encounters and experiences, showcasing her love affairs on one album, with each track dedicates and inspired by a different man from Leigh's past. Most of the writing occurred while Leigh was on tour with the first album, travelling up and down the country and often reuniting with old flames across the nation.

Release and Promotion[edit | edit source]

Mirror Mirror was originally planned for a summer 2015 release, but pushed forward after Leigh cited a quick progression and formation of the album. In a Newsletter that revealed the title as Mirror Mirror, Leigh informed fans that the album was 'shaped' by the 'lovers and liars' who helped define her life's story so far. Musically, it's inspired by pop, electromusic and club music, but often slips beyond and into different genres. Fruity Pussy was released alongside the album, and scheduled for a March 23rd release.

Singles[edit | edit source]

Fawesome[edit | edit source]

Fawesome was released as the lead single from the album in January 2015, kicking off the album era. It was the first release of Cesca's through Fusion Records, with whom she had struck up a deal with to oversee her second studio album. It gained mixed to positive reviews, although Cesca said the same people always bring negative reviews to 'drag the single down'.The track was written about three boys with whom she had had a sexual relationship with. The title stands for 'Fucking Awesome Foursome'. The track debuted at number two on the Uraps chart, selling 313,097 copies.

Fruity Pussy[edit | edit source]

Fruity Pussy was released as the second single from the album in March 2015, alongside the album itself. The track gained more positive reviews than the lead single, although some relayed their 'disgust' about the use of 'Pussy' in the title and constantly throughout the song. Upon release, the single charted lower at Number 4, but became her highest selling single to date, eventually selling a total of 327,105 copies.

For The Night[edit | edit source]

For The Night was released as the third single from the album in June 2015, but followed Jean Luc's Scream For Me release in chronology. Between Your Legs, a duet with Paulo Arajuo, was initially scheduled as the third release, but later delayed when Arajuo wasn't available for promotion. The track was labeled the most radio friendly track from the album, and was noted by critics as a standout from the album upon release, as well as one of Leigh's favourite. It initially peaked at number 4, considered a disappointment, but rose to number 2 the following week. It is Cesca's highest selling single to date.

MIrror Mirror[edit | edit source]

Shortly after For The Night became Leigh's highest selling single to date, the announcement of Mirror Mirror being lifted as the album's fourth single was made. Slightly changes to the track were made before it was released to radio - including a re-worked instrumental and a 'bitch slap' additional verse, which takes aim at Monique DiVine of Ace Rejects with whom Leigh has been involved with a highly explosive argument during her career. This was also the inspiration to quickly release the next single, as Cesca's name was still circulating in the press. Scheduled for an August 2015 release date, the track became Cesca's joint lowest peaking single to date, charting at number 5 and selling just -_______ copies.
