Melissa Ray (born October 10, 1996), known professionally as Monie X, is a British rapper, singer and songwriter. Born and raised in London, she rose to prominence in August 2021 on the third season of The Rap Game UK. Shortly after appearing on the BBC3 rap competition, Monie signed a recording contract with XS Records. She subsequently released three singles ("New Girl", "Bad Girl" and "That Girl") over three consecutive weeks. The three singles were a critical and commercial success, all charting in the Top 10 of the UK Singles Chart.
Following her three single campaign, Monie released her debut EP, Girls, on September 17, 2021. The EP charted at #2 and sold a total of 280,488 copies.
In September 2021, Monie was approached to appear as a guest vocalist on the third single by pop singer, Tiger. Titled, "Let's Run Away...", the track was taken from the Liar: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, a Netflix feature film starring Emily Henning. The song became a #1 hit, with sales in excess of 575,000 units.
Capitalising on her growing popularity, Monie released her debut studio album, I Am, in the following year. It entered number-one on the UK Albums Chart on May 6, 2022, and spawned the Gold-certified single "Me First", which peaked at #3.
In July 2022, it was announced that Monie would return to The Rap Game UK as the competition's Head Judge for Season 4.
On September 1, 2023, Monie X released the lead single, 'I Do (I Promise I Do),' from her second album, I Do. Both releases entered the UK Albums Chart at #1.
