"OOPS!" is the first official single from Amy Marshall's sixth studio album, Amy, released March 24, 2014. This was Amy's first single since "Best Friends Forever" went to #1 in October 2011.

The song, which has an upbeat, disco sound, is about a woman who seeks revenge on their ex by hacking all of their social media accounts and destroying all their electronics. The chorus borrows from the 2002 R&B hit, "Oops! (Oh My)" by Tweet.

Amy said about the song in a February 2014 interview with BBC, “I love seeking revenge on people who have dicked me over, so I thought it would be fun to write a song about it. The chorus borrows a little from Tweet's 2002 hit, "Oops! (Oh My)". I love the line about me throwing my ex’s cell phone into the ocean. I’d love to do that one day.”

Background[edit | edit source]

After "Best Friends Forever", the lead single from Amy's fifth studio album, Broken Angel, went to #1, Amy planned on following it up twice - first with "Mother" in early 2012, and then with "Broken Angel" that summer. However, plans fell through due to Amy suffering a mental breakdown, caused by her mother's illness, the death of her pet monkey Prince, and numerous failed friendships and relationships. The breakdown also resulted in Amy losing custody of her 5-year-old daughter Katramy, who is now living with her other mother, Katrina Regalna of once-relevant pop duo Horrorfilm Horizon.

In April 2013, Amy started listening back to the music that she grew up with, which quickly helped her get better as well as inspired to get back in the studio to write and record a new album. The album, Amy, was released without any prior announcement to iTunes on February 23, 2014, and released everywhere physically a week later.

Critical reception[edit | edit source]

The reception was positive because the song rules.

Promotion[edit | edit source]

Promotion for the single included a music video where Amy hacks the Twitter accounts of various celebrities, such as Esmeralda Dimuzio, Syd Wolfe, and Violetta DiNozzo, where Amy ends up writing on all of their accounts, "Buy Amy Marshall's new single "OOPS!" on March 24th!". She also stirred controversy for the song's lyrics, as parents accused Amy of glamorizing hacking, slacked off by taking selfies and playing Flappy Bird, performing on Loose Women, partying at Warg1, and started a relationship with a wrecking ball-riding porn star named Rydyr. The single was released the same week as Aimee Lyons' "No Room At The Inn" and newcomer Amy-Jayne's debut single, "Politically Correct", making it a battle of the Amy's. When Marshall was asked in an interview which Amy she thought would end up being #1, she responded, "Kazimiera".
