"Rockstar" is a song by Australian/English recording artist Caymon, released as the fourth and final single from his #1 album Riders of the Night. The track, produced by Jim Beanz, features Caymon's fiancé Ashley! and rapper Melody Jackson of successful girl-group Bloom. "Rockstar" was released on July 15th in Europe and on July 16th in the United States and Canada. The single charted at #10 in the UK and #44 in the United States.

Background[edit | edit source]

"Rockstar" was immediately a fan favourite upon the release of Riders of the Night and was initially planned as the second single from the album. Plans were changed, however, when Fusion Records opted to leave the track as the album's final single, deeming it "too good" to be released so soon into the campaign. Pop ballad "Without You" was released as the second single instead.

In May 2013, it was announced by Caymon at a show in Sydney that "Rockstar" would be released in July, as the fourth and final single from his second album.

Compostion[edit | edit source]

"Rockstar" is considered a pop song with slight R'n'B and dance influences. The intro chorus to the song uses heavy, fleet-y synthesizers and a heavy kick beat is used throughout the track. The song's chorus is sung entirely by Ashley!, while Caymon takes the verses only. Melody Jackson appears for a rap during the middle-8 section of the song, considered to be a "breakdown" in the song. When added up, both Ashley and Melody have more singing time on the song than Caymon himself.

Reception[edit | edit source]

Upon the release of it's parent album, "Rockstar" received extremely favorable reviews from fans and the media alike.
Digital Spy were the first to review the track, calling it "a stand-out club track, putting the rest of the album to shame". They complimented Ashley's "pristine" vocals on the chorus and cited Melody's rap as a highlight. It was noted by them that the track was "instant and insanely catchy". They gave it a rating of 5/5.
The track made "Song of the Day" on Popjustice in July 2012, soon after the album's release. Popjustice called the track "the song that makes Caymon's existence OK with us".
GayTimes predicted that the song would be "the song that Caymon will be remembered for in years to come" and gave it a 9/10 rating.

Music Video[edit | edit source]

The music video for the song will be a mixture of footage from Caymon's Riders of the Night tour and an actual music video including himself, Ashley and Melody. The video was directed by Vaughan Arnell and is due to premiere in the month of June.

Promotion[edit | edit source]

The single was performed as the closing number of Caymon's Riders of the Night tour. It is due to be performed at Capital FM's Summertime Ball in June 2013 also.
