Seventeen Missing Kisses is the second album released by American recording-artist Emily Henning, released on December 7, 2008. The project is the follow-up to Henning's diamond-selling debut, Shattered Diamond (2007), and her first album to be released via her own record-label, Saturdays Records. Emily mainly worked with English song-writing and production team Knobfeelers on the album, following their collaboration with close-friend Jack Stevens.
The album utilises more of a dance-pop sound than Henning's previous album and received generally mixed reviews from contemporary music critics. It was preceded by the lead single, "Burnt Out Heartbeat", which was written and produced by Shell Ruin. The song peaked at number one in Ireland and the UK.
The album debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart, becoming her second to do so. It sold more than 1,800,00 during its chart run, ranking as the best-selling album of 2009. In 2010, the album was certified 2x Diamond by the British Phonographic Industry, with shipments in the UK in the excess of 2,000,000.
The album was re-released as Seventeen Missing Kisses 2.0 in August 2009. This re-issue featured five new songs, including "Bruises" and three tracks written by Elice Claire.
Background[edit | edit source]
Emily began working on her second studio album in May 2009 following her Shattered Diamond Live UK Tour. The first song recorded for the album was the Shell Ruin penned Burnt Out Heartbeat. Shortly after, Emily reached out to London-based production team Knobfeelers, who went on to produce the majority of the album.
In an interview with web music magazine Popjustice, Emily later recounted the recording process for the album, stating: "I wanted to work with new producers on this album and Knobfeelers had the perfect dance-pop sound I was looking for. Each member of the team would work on backing tracks, chords or beats, and we'd choose the best bits and build up songs like jigsaws. It was a lot of fun."
Emily recorded around 50 songs for the album, and while picking the album's final track listing she sometimes had to argue and fight for songs with her record label Wired Records.
