"She Ain't About To Do That" is a song by French-British singer Beastette which features British urban singer Aurora Reed. The song was supposed to be released as a single in June 2012 but was pushed back multiple times to July, November, and December 2013 before it was finally released officially 7 January 2013. It was slated to be the lead single from Beastette's sophomore album Raynachelle but has since been announced to not be on the album.
Upon release, the single was moderately successful though not as much as Beastette's previous singles due to promotional tactics which can be described as "lazy and sluggish". The single peaked at #12 on the UK Singles Chart, becoming Beastette's first single to miss the top ten there. It also charted at #92 in Canada and "bubbled under" the Billboard Hot 100 at #106.
Background and writing[edit | edit source]
Beastette wrote and recorded "She Ain't About To Do That" in 2012, co-writing the song with her sister Stephanie Kesh. Beastette, on her second album, decided she wanted to work with different producers instead of produce her own material and for this song, she asked Rusko to produce it. Popular urban singer Aurora Reed was asked to rap on the track instead of sing, following Beastette's fondness of Reed's mixtape AURORA REED IS *NOT* A RAPPER where Reed raps on all of the mixtape.
The song is a hip-hop and urban inspired pop song that lyrically talks of a girl who turns down the romantic/sexual advances of a gentleman. In the chorus, she says "she ain't about to do that" with the "she" meaning "I am" or "I'm"; in other words, she is actually saying "I'm not about to do that" or "I ain't about to do that".
Release and promotion[edit | edit source]
The single was initially supposed to be released on 2 July 2012 around the same time that Beastette's sophomore album Raynachelle was supposed to be released. Both the album and the single were pushed back multiple times, with the single being pushed back to November and December 2012.
The single was finally released on 7 January 2013. The single had a promotional campaign which has since been described by critics as "sluggish" and "lazy", with concerned it would affect the success of the single.
Reception[edit | edit source]
Critical reaction[edit | edit source]
The single managed to receive generally positive reviews, with plenty praising Beastette's new sound from alternative pop to a more urban-pop light-fare sound. Critics raved about Reed's rap verse in the middle eight.
Commercial performance[edit | edit source]
"She Ain't About To Do That" charted at #12 on the UK Singles Chart, becoming Beastette's first single to miss the top ten there. It also charted at #92 in Canada, her lowest peaking single to date. In the United States, it became her first to not chart on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart or the Billboard Hot 100 though it did chart at #6 on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart which is a 25-spot extension to the Billboard Hot 100; her peak at #6 is equivalent to peaking at #106.
