Background[edit | edit source]

Written by singer/songwriter Ben Johnston, "Shut the Club Down" is destined to set fire to dance floors all over the UK and the US. The song has more context than its title, says Johnston. Bellamy writes "I specifically told my manager I did not want a cliche club song with the same message of going to the club and having fun. I wanted something more complex, more edgy and Johnston had just that. I was stunned by how brilliant the lyrics was. Johnston didn't even have to ask me if I wanted it, I knew I had to record it and release it as a single from the getgo." he adds "The song is basically a sexual rendezvous with many metaphors. I genuinely think it can be interpreted many different ways. Come open minded and listen to the song and do as you will with it!"

Promotion[edit | edit source]

To promote the single, Isaac performed the song in many summer music festivals including Radio 1 Hackney Weekend, T4 on the Beach and T in the Park. The singer also appeared on morning tv show This Morning for an interview and performance on 26 June 2012. Bellamy also did a small radio tour in the beginning to June to get radios to play his song.

Music video[edit | edit source]

MTV UK confirmed on 2 June 2012 that Bellamy had shot the video for "Shut the Club Down", the video was initially meant to be premiered on 20 June 2012, but directors felt that the video needed to be tweaked around a little more. The video received its world premiere on VEVO on 27 June 2012. The video opens in a club. Isaac is seen dancing with a tall blonde chick. Scene changes and it shows his girl walking to the ladies room. Isaac seems bored, so he reaches for his pocket and grabs his cart keys. He exits the club, walks to his car and drives off to a warehouse. He opens his trunk, grabs a container of kerosene and walks into the warehouse. A huge metal door opens as he enters the location, meanwhile random shots of the ceiling, and the whole building is shown. Shots of Bellamy at the club dancing with a woman are shown. Bellamy is then seen pouring kerosene all over himself and setting fire to himself. Throughout the video random shots of Bellamy dancing and engaging in wild orgy is seen. In the end of the video, Isaac snaps out of daydream. The chick he was dancing with asks him if he is alright. He says "Yeah, I'm fine, I just need to wash up for a second". As he walks to the back of the club to use the restroom, he comes across pictures hanging off the ceiling. The pictures shows him on fire dancing with that chick. He turns around looking for the girl but she's gone. He reaches for his pocket and finds a match with a picture of her. The video abruptly ends with Bellamy holding the picture and the match.
