Standing Strong
Standing Strong is the first single from Esmeralda Dimuzio's fourth album, Riptide. This is one of her most attitude-filled tracks to date, similar to Warning or Mess, and Esmeralda believed the moment she wrote it, she knew she had a hit, which is primarily driven by guitars.
The single charted at #4 in its first week, and despite weak sales overall for the top singles that week, did last long enough to be certified gold. It spent 10 weeks in the top 40, which is tied with Behind You for her longest running single in the top 40.
Lyrics[edit | edit source]
Dear old friend, how have you been? Haven't seen you in years It's amazing how things have changed When you're working part-time at Sears Tell me, how's your life been? How's the minimum wage? Do you think of me When you look at your yearbook page?
Is this the life That you thought you'd live? What can you do When you have nothing to give? Are you jealous of me And who I've become? Do you still save up For a pack of chewing gum?
You thought I couldn't live without you Oh, how wrong you are! Look at yourself in the mirror Have you become the star? You said I'd be in your place Boy, are you ever wrong! Look who's on the stage Look who's standing strong
Did you ever wake up one morning And wished you'd changed that time? Did you see me on TV And wondered how I did that rhyme? If it weren't for your misfortune I wouldn't be here today You could've been in my place But now I say, no way!
You thought I couldn't live without you Oh, how wrong you are! Look at yourself in the mirror Have you become the star? You said I'd be in your place Boy, are you ever wrong! Look who's on the stage Look who's standing strong
You could've had the money You could've had the fame But since you didn't take the chance Everybody knows my name I hope you think of me And what you could've been Forever I will remind you Of the places you could've seen
You thought I couldn't live without you Oh, how wrong you are! Look at yourself in the mirror Have you become the star? You said I'd be in your place Boy, are you ever wrong! Look who's on the stage Look who's standing strong
