The Menagerie the eighth studio album by alternative pop duo Indigo Peak, released on September 1st, 2023 via IPR.
Background[edit | edit source]
Indigo Peak began preparing tracks for 'The Menagerie' during their Indigo Peak & Co. Stadium tour in the summer of 2022.
As with their previous album ‘Music From The Motion Picture’, ‘The Menagerie’ was recorded in LA, London, Manchester and Paris.
‘Are We Having Any Fun Yet?’ preceded the albums release on August 25th, 2023. The track debuted at the top of the official charts, providing Indigo Peak with their 20th UK number one single. Whilst well received by critics, the track drew some negative attention for its horror inspired music video.
A single mix of ‘I Will Show You Love featuring new vocals and lyrics by Alesha was announced in early October 2023 with a release date slated for November 3rd of that year.
Influences[edit | edit source]
By definition a Menagerie is a collection of wild animals kept in captivity for exhibition. In a way I think everyone feels like the centrepiece in their own Menagerie from time to time. —Yannik Cassenove, Audite Magazine, August 2023. |
Unlike their previous two concept driven LP’s, Indigo Peak opted for an eclectic collection of songs featuring acid house, pop and dance. On album track ‘Hold Me Down Gravity’ the duo were inspired by country music, their first foray into the genre.
Thematically the album deals with subjects such as love, death and mental-health. Lyrically writer Yannik Cassenove was inspired by his own struggles with the subjects over the previous year.
Album opener ‘Hey You!’ takes on the subject of influencer culture whilst poking fun at the group itself.
