Tiffany Amber (Born November 29, 1984) is a British/Irish singer-songwriter who released her debut album, No Supergirl in 2010. The album launched two top 5 singles, both of which peaked at #1 on the downloads chart. Following a series of record label issues, Tiffany abandoned the album era and moved on to her sophomore album Hearts Keep Beating which failed to live up to the former album's success. Following a number of highly publicised personal problems Tiffany re-released her debut album with a new single, both of which were commercially unsuccesful. In 2011, Tiffany became more notable for her rocky relationship with Vanessa Flowers than her music, following a public breakdown Tiffany recorded her third album- Skeletons in my Closet.

Biography[edit | edit source]

1984-2009: Early Life and Discovery[edit | edit source]

Tiffany Amber, born Tiffany Muriel Amber in 1984 was the result of a one night stand between a rabbi and a staunch catholic mother- in an early interview she described herself as their "one big mistake". She claims to have been the victim of sexual abuse during her childhood at the hands of her uncle Bob, and spent her time between her mother's home in Belfast and her father's in London. Her mother pushed her to pursue a career in acting, with Tiffany winning a number of roles in television shows including The Bill and Eastenders. She had small roles in a few Hollywood films before quitting the film industry at the age of fourteen to focus on her music career.

After being kicked out by her mother, Tiffany moved in with her father full time in London where she started to mix with local musicians. She began learning to play the guitar and writing her own songs aged fifteen, but was kicked out by her father after developing an alcohol problem. She spent the next two years performing guitar as part of a punk rock band 'The Black Hand' with her then boyfriend, however she was kicked out of the band after a messy break-up.

In 2003 Tiffany moved to New York to follow in the footsteps of her idol Debbie Harry and build a career as a songwriter- she recorded an album of pop-punk songs which gained the interest of a number of record labels, but after signing a deal with Arista she refused to co-operate with the label and she and the label parted ways. Tiffany went on to record backing vocals for a number of high profile artists while attempting to launch a career as a folk-tinged singer-songwriter.

After numerous attempts to break through into rock and folk music, Tiffany returned to the UK where she auditioned for a girlband- the management rejected her from the girlband but instead decided to launch her as a solo artist in the UK.

2010: No Supergirl[edit | edit source]

Unsure how to launch her, Tiffany's major break came when she was entered into the Tango Challenge by her management and signed to Elite Records. She wrote and performed the track "No Superman" especially for the contest and was voted in to the contest, being matched up with dance-pop singer Kazimiera. Together the pair wrote Worlds Collide together, which would become Tiffany's breakthrough hit when it charted at #5. The single was the Tango challenge runner-up, placing behind Cassie Fox and Mark Charlie Wilson's chart topper. Tiffany's album "No Supergirl" was rush-released a week before the Tango single to avoid major competition. The album charted within the top ten and would later rise to #3.

Following her success in the Tango challenge Tiffany opted to release More of the Same to show a different side to her as an artist, the downtempo track was more in tune with her folk roots and was deemed risky as a single choice by her management. The single edit featured country star Mark Charlie Wilson. It became her most critically and commercially succesful single when it charted at #3 and became her second download chart #1.

In July, Tiffany was ushered in to help run Elite Records, but the label closed down before she took the reins. Without a record label she returned to a small indie imprint which urged her to release a poppier single to continue her success. The new wave track Trouble was chosen, but later cancelled after numerous spats with her record label. A music video for the track was filmed but never released. In the later half of the year, Tiffany remained quiet while working on a follow-up to No Supergirl. She was briefly signed to Fusion Records and joined their tour as a co-headlining act. In December while promoting a range of incense sticks she revealed she had scrapped an entire sophomore album and that many songs had been auctioned off to other artists. She also began dating Vanessa Flowers around the time of her album Enchanted's release.

2011: Sex, Hearts Keep Beating, No Supergirl 2.0, Skeletons in my Closet[edit | edit source]

Tiffany and Fusion parted company just months after the contract had been signed in February 2011 to join gossip blogger Trish's fledgeling record label. Rumors surfaced that Tiffany left the label to release a duets album with then girlfriend Vanessa Flowers called Sex which executives at Fusion were not comfortable with. This was confirmed, as was a single, Lips, however just weeks after the announcement Vanessa and Tiffany ended their relationship and cancelled the album.

Instead Tiffany released her first solo single Never Gonna Say Goodbye, a ballad described as "More of the Same for the hipster generation" by NME. The single failed to find radio support and a widely publicised nervous breakdown during the promotion lead to the single charting at #12. Her mini-album Hearts Keep Beating also failed to find any commercial success, charting at #13. According to Tiffany, she was pressured into releasing the pop album by Trish to recapture her fanbase. The project was abandoned and a second proposed single, a remix of Trouble featuring Cassie Garcia was axed in favour of Vanessa Flowers (Single) from a re-release of No Supergirl. Tiffany's mental health saw an even more rapid decline and after numerous stars in rehab and a suicide attempt Tiffany was sectioned. Vanessa Flowers charted at #17.

Despite claims she was retiring from the music industry in April 2011, Tiffany would surface in June claiming to have joined Tiger Tiger. Tiffany also recorded small roles in the films The Dreidel Room 2 and Jurapsic Park, with the latter being scrapped after the death of the film's main star Becki Lyons.

In July she announced her third album Skeletons in my Closet after the release of buzz single Blackened Nails which became her second consecutive single to chart at #17. A second single Death March, written about the Holocaust, was released alongside the album in August 2011. The album charted at #8, one place lower than No Supergirl had debuted, however the single became her lowest charting to date when it debuted at #22, though it would later rise to #15. Shortly after the release of the single and album Tiffany cancelled a number of appearances to attend a detoxification camp in Canada.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

Tiffany Amber has suffered from asthma and lactose intolerance from a young age. She has used her fame to support numerous charities dedicated to the life shattering effects of the diseases. She idolises Alesha, who hates her, and believes her album Buried Underneath is her magnum opus.

She was romantically linked to Vanessa Flowers and had a mental breakdown following their break-up in 2011, leading to the publication of her drug and drink addictions, her eating disorder and her suicidal tendencies. After numerous suicide attempts, she was sectioned for her own wellbeing. She claims to have been raped by Vanessa's ex-boyfriend Raymond.

Her favourite colour is beige.

Controversy[edit | edit source]

Tiffany sued Vanessa Flowers following their break-up, claiming that her single In the Fast Lane borrowed heavily from her 2010 single Worlds Collide. Vanessa counter-sued, claiming her single Vanessa Flowers was slanderous.
