Trash Me; Platinum Edition

Trash Me is the debut studio album by American pop singer, Taylor Wolfe. The album was released by Elite Records on 14 September 2009 in the United Kingdom and throughout September 2009 in other parts of the world.

The album was repackaged in January 2010 and re-released with 6 new songs as a "Platinum Edition" in recognition of the album being certified platinum.

The album was critically successful where it garnered positive reviews and was a big commercial success worldwide where it was either certified platinum or multi-platinum in many other countries, including in the UK where it was certified Diamond and in the US where it earned at quadruple-platinum certification.

All of the singles released from the album were criticially and commercially successful where it reached the top ten in the UK and US.

Background Information[edit | edit source]

The album was recorded in the early 2009.

Influences[edit | edit source]

Taylor told "Digital Spy" that he wanted to make a "good pop album" and that he'd been influenced by whoever had made great pop music throughout the last ten years.

Throughout other promotional appearances, Taylor agreed that he had been influenced by Jack Stevens who Taylor admitted has "some of the best pop songs I've ever heard".

Taylor also explained that popular songs that were produced by the specific producers he worked with influenced him heavily as he researched the producers before meeting them.

Release and Reception[edit | edit source]

"Attitude", "Heat" & "Metro" gave the album 5 stars, each citing that Taylor was an exciting new popstar with out of the box pop-by-numbers formula's that any popular music lover would enjoy.

Quite surprisingly, "The Sunday Times" gave the album 3 stars stating "the strong, charming moments outshine the poorer efforts but there's too little variety. Wolfe seems to sing about the same thing in most of the tracklisting".

"The Independent" gave the album 3.5 stars, proclaiming their love for the album's darker moments. Particularly shining a light on "Erased" which sampled a French Hip Hop track. However, llike The Sunday Times, cited it's downfall as having little substance anywhere else.

"AllMusic" reviewed the album in an opposite manner, as the reviewer chose the album's lighter moments as the highlights and expressed their view that the pop lovers just "wouldn't quite 'get' the sample in the "Erased"".

Chart Performance[edit | edit source]

Trash Me was a commercial success in every country it was released in. Debuting in the UK first, it reached #1 in it's first week and was a consistent seller.

In the US, the album almost mirrored it's success in the UK. It debuted and peaked, also, at #1 - it's first week sales, however, were much higher than those in the UK. It proved the be very popular and continued to sell well during the era, reaching 1,000,000 copies in the US after 4 weeks and eventually selling 4,300,000 million there to date.

Worldwide, the initial release was unrecognized apart from the UK & Ireland, USA and Canada. It was not until the Platinum Edition of the album, that it finally managed to break through. Upon it's re-release, Trash Me rocketed to the top 10 in Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Italy, Greece & Spain. The album reached #1 in the UK, US, Canada, France, Germany, Belgium & Sweden.
