"Turn Off the Lights" is a song recorded by Australian singer/songwriter Caymon for his fourth (third worldwide) studio album The One and Only. It was written by Caymon and produced by MNEK, Billboard and Oliver "Oligee" Goldstein. The song was released in the United States and Canada on May 4th 2015 bu Fusion Records as the first single from the album. "Turn Off the Lights" is a pop song with elements of dance-music and electro-pop. The song received praise upon it's release for it's "soaring and incredibly catchy chorus" and "on-point production". Many critics also praised the track for being "something different" for Caymon. The song debuted at #TBA in the United States and #TBA in the UK.

Background[edit | edit source]

"Turn Off the Lights" was written by Caymon in October 2014 during a studio session with MNEK. The original demo of the track was produced solely by MNEK. The final track features additional production by Billboard and Oligee, at Fusion's request. The track was selected to be the album's lead single not long after it was completed due to it's upbeat nature and carefree lyrics. About the process of creating the track, Caymon said:

"I knew when recording this album that I needed a single that was really going to capture people's attention. In the music world, it'd nearly been two years since the release of my last album and a lot of people would have forgotten that I existed! So I just began writing what I knew would capture people's attention best: an unapologetic party song. I hope it worked, because I really love it!".

The single was released not long after it's premiere in the United States and Canada. The European release followed almost two months later on July 6th 2015, alongside the worldwide release of the album.

Critical reception[edit | edit source]

Upon release, "Turn Off the Lights" received mostly positive reviews from fans and critics alike. Popjustice were one of the first to review the track, calling it "a 3-and-a-half-minute pop masterpiece sure to get overplayed this summer". In their review of the song, Digital Spy gave it 4 stars and stated that "It's when he puts out tunes like this that we remember why we did at one time love Caymon. Welcome back!". NME called the song "very try-hard and unoriginal, but that doesn't have to be a bad thing. For what it is, it's a very good pop song that the club scene worldwide is going to eat up".
