Video[edit | edit source]
The video was premiered on September 5, 2009, and features Esmeralda playing four roles: private investigator Samantha Wright (the main role), a newscaster, a murder victim, and a fortune teller. Paulo Araujo co-stars as Al Peryse, a police officer who had worked with Samantha on many cases, and now has to arrest her.
After noticing patterns with a series of murders, Samantha Wright finds out that she herself has been responsible for them while possessed by a ghost in her sleep! Upon finding out only she can stop the ghost (and after receiving her fortune), she kills herself before she can kill anyone else. Before her suicide, she finds out that the fortune teller got her powers from the mythical Hope Diamond, whose curse befell her murder victims. Al Peryse then delivers the eulogy at her funeral, where her gravesite
The video includes references to many other factors, including:
- Neon hearts in the fortune teller's shack, which refer to an early promotional tactic that the song's writer Ben Johnston used as his trademark
- The tarot card the Page of Wands in Esmeralda's first fortune is the counterpart to the Jack of Clubs in a regular deck of cards; this is a direct reference to Paulo's album title
- Samantha Wright is buried next to Johnny Silver; this is the name of the character in the video for Luke Ramada's single Life Imitates Fiction; Luke duetted with Paulo on the single Extinction Of The Shy
