"We've Got A Problem" is one of the releases for the 2013 Tango Challenge. It is the second single by Uraps Factor runner-up Aimee Stevens, and the eleventh single by Ashley!. This marks Ashley's second tango entry, after "Scaredy Cat" in 2012. The song features on Aimee's debut studio album "Papermade Hearts". Upon it's release, the song charted at #4 in the charts.
Release[edit | edit source]
The girls provided various unique ways to help release the album. On 16 February, "We've Got A Problem: The Game" was released to all smartphones. On 05 March, a ninety minute show entitled "Following #TeamAshimee" was broadcast on ITV2.
Critical Reception[edit | edit source]
"We've Got A Problem" was received favorably by music critics. Bill Lamb from About.com listed "We've Got A Problem" as one of Ashley's best releases to date, stating that the song "bursts out of the blocks", and that "the partnership between Ashley and Aimee is electric". Nick Levine from Digital Spy described the song as one of the highlights of the 2012 Tango Challenge, and stated "We were all excited between Ashley and Aimee's pairing, but we didn't expect something as powerful as this. 2013 just got it's girl power song."
Music video[edit | edit source]
The official video premiered on 11 March 2013. An overview of a prison detain camp is shown as the camera follows a heels walking through. She is surrounded by a host of bodyguards and the continued shot follows to a cell numbered ‘TC01’. The camera pans up to reveal the flowing blonde hair to be that of Aimee Stevens; she looks into the cell to see Ashley sitting on a bed dressed in black leather – she gives a knowing smile to the camera and walks out. She speaks “Shall we make some music sugar?” before being handed a brief case by Aimee. Slowly fading out a message reads ‘four hours previously.
‘We’ve Got A Problem’ slowly fades in as the girls travel down an empty road, the wind blowing through their hair and the girls looking sexy and sophisticated as they begin to sing the first verse, occasionally glancing over shoulders and looking into the wing mirror. With the first chorus beginning, Ashley and Aimee both arrive at a small rundown American Diner. Before entering, they are seen whispering and talking together, picking out a target. They select a dark haired man who is flirting with the waitress for an unknown reason. Entering, the girls approach the man before being interrupted by the waitress, Aimee strolls past knocking her causing her to spill her coffee.
A separate scene is set in the same diner, with both girls wearing brighter, more colourful clothing, showing a more playful side; the diner is empty as they walk around, almost narrating the story. The girls continue to cause problems for the male target and the cafe workers as they continue making a nuisance of themselves, throwing food and milkshakes around the place.
As Ashley continues to sing her verse, she slowly starts to seduce the male target, selected before hand with Aimee; she grabs him by his tie, pulling him towards her, before throwing him off her. She climbs on to the worktop and continues the rest of the verse. Meanwhile, Aimee is watching from a far, singing her verse whilst writing ‘We’ve Got A Problem’ and ‘Bang Bang’ on the table out of the sauces. As they reach the penultimate verse, the girls finally take action on the man, who is revealed to be a previous boyfriend of Aimee’s, as suggested through a photo of the pair in her purse, along with this image is a sketch of a man with a gun to his head, shooting rainbow blood. Ashley hands Aimee a brief case (similar to the one handed to Ashley in the flash-forward at the start) which she has retrieved from an outside. Aimee slowly removes a pistol gun, with a nod from Ashley, pulls the gun on the target, before randomly shooting various other customers.
As soon as a dance break throughout the instrumental of the song, Ashley hands Aimee the car keys who quickly speeds away in the car, passing a police car with flashing sirens approaching the diner. Aimee sings the final verse into the wing mirror and Ashley as she crowd surfs in the restaurant. The police quickly arrive as Ashley continues to crowd surf; they quickly swoop in and arrest her. As she is escorted to the police car, she smirks confidently at the camera, suggesting they know what is going to happen.
The video cuts back to the original scene in the police cell, allowing Ashley and Aimee to escape the guards and drive off, this time Ashley shows Aimee a picture of the man she wants to target, hoping Aimee to repay the favour. The video ends with a police line-up with Ashley posing for photos.
