"Wintertime Girl" is a download only release from British boyband Jetfire. The song was released on December 07 2015, as a Christmas gift to the band's fans.
Background[edit | edit source]
On 21 November 2015 Jetfire announced they would be returning with a brand new Christmas song. This would mark the fourth consecutive year they released a Christmas song, following "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" in 2012, their original Christmas song "Rocking Around The Christmas Tree" in 2013 and"Everything's Going To Be Cool This Christmas" in 2014. Band member Aaron Dixon revealed "We're going to be releasing a new original Christmas song again this year! It's called 'Wintertime Girl'. Our aim is to release so many Christmas tracks over the years that we can eventually put them all onto a Christmas album and release that for our fans."
On 26 November, Joey Nicholson and Sean Cotes appeared on Capital FM for an interview about the song before the station gave the song its world premiere.
Release and reception[edit | edit source]
"Wintertime Girl" received generally positive responses after it was released. Jessica Ginting of FDRMX gave it 4 stars out of 5, and described the song as "a warm, feel-good song", but also said that "its cheerful instrumental restricts it from going beyond the surface, which takes away from its emotional impact." PopJustice described the song as "the cutest rock song you'll ever hear" and claimed the song had "the potential to become a Christmas classic for years to come." Brian Mansfield of USA Today described the song as "an attempt at a seasonal staple", but wasn't as good as the band's last original Christmas song, "Rocking (Around The Christmas Tree)".
The release, and overall promotion of the song was overshadowed by a cheating scandal, as it was revealed band member Aaron Dixon's partner Syd Wolfe had been having an affair behind his back in the media in the same week that the song was revealed.
