(2009)

"You Can't Hide" was to be the third single from electronic dance outfit Schizophonic's debut album "The Monaghan Dynasty". It was due to be released on May 11th, 2009, but due to lack of motivation the release was scrapped. The single is notable for being the first solo recording ever by Veronica Nightshade, before she competed in URAPS Idol. Due to the single's cancellation the new mix was never commercially released, however it leaked from the promo disc.

Background[edit | edit source]

"You Can't Hide" was written by R'n'B singer Othello, and the demo was put up for sale. Alexei purchased the rights to the song, and Schizophonic recorded it for "The Monaghan Dynasty". The original album version featured just Alexei on vocals, but it was re-recorded for single release to replace Alexei's vocals since he'd returned to Phoenix Rising and was no longer properly in the group. The song was re-arranged into a duet version, featuring Raphael and a then-unknown Veronica Nightshade, whom Sylar had discovered and was working with her on tracks before she auditioned for URAPS Idol. It would have been her first solo release after leaving her old girl group D.I.V.A.S. The release was cancelled shortly after announcement because neither Sylar or Raphael were motivated enough to promote it, and Alexei was already gone from the group. Alexei would later take the song with him and record a new version of the song with Venus Vegas, using the duet arrangement from Schizophonic's single version.

Intended as a b-side for the single was a song called "Diamond Deception", written by Violetta DiNozzo and originally recorded by Veronica. Her version of the song, produced by Sylar, was never released. Violetta held onto the song for herself, recording a version with Brian Transeau which ended up on her sophomore album. Veronica's version of "Diamond Deception" was never released and remains unleaked. Remixes were commissioned for both "Diamond Deception" and "You Can't Hide", and all of them were shelved when the single was cancelled.

Reception[edit | edit source]

The public reaction to the single announcement was indifference, after the group's previous two singles came and went with little fanfare, interest wasn't really there for a third single. Veronica's presence largely went unnoticed, with the public not even properly becoming aware of her until URAPS Idol when she successfully auditioned. Even after the song was re-recorded again with Venus Vegas for Phoenix Rising's second album, the song did not garner enough attention or interest for it to be released at all.
