How London Used To Be is a song by British recording artist Jack Stevens and was released as the fourth single from his album Close Encounters.

Background[edit | edit source]

'How London Used To Be' was written by Shell Ruin and produced by Knobfeelers. The song is notable for showcasing a different sound for Jack, relying on live instrumentation rather than his trademark electropop sound. The song was signalled as an album stand out by critics but received a mixed reception from fans. The track was officially announced as the final single from Close Encounters on March 23, 2021.

Music Video[edit | edit source]

An accompanying music video for the single was filmed in March 2021 and premiered through Jack's official YouTube channel on April 15, 2021. Directed by Sophie Muller, the video used state of the art CGI technology to insert Jack into his old videos and have him interacting with his old self.

Reception[edit | edit source]

The video was a big success with fans who loved the nostalgia of using old video footage in a new way. The video was the top of the YouTube trending charts for it's first few days on the website.
