Remigio Noorani Ramires (born 18 December 1992), who records mononymously as Remi, is an American singer, songwriter and producer. In 2016, Ramires came to prominence upon placing second in the BBC's Sound of 2017. Before releasing his own material, he became best known for featuring on the Apollo 54 song "Negotiate Wimme", which reached number one on the Official Singles Chart. He released his debut album, The Key to Funky, in August 2017 alongside his debut single "Kush".

Early life[edit | edit source]

Ramires was born on 18 December 1992 in Manhattan, New York to a Pakistani mother and a Columbian father. Ramires attended the LaGuardia High School in New York, graduating in 2012. During this period, he studied music and music technology. In high school, Ramires listened mainly to funk, soul and maudlin singers, later developing an interest in predominantly hip-hop and rapped in a neo-soul band with school friends.

2016-2017: Career beginnings[edit | edit source]

Ramires was discovered by Syd Wolfe after posting cover versions of songs on YouTube, resulting in him signing a record deal with Fusion Records in 2016. At the end of the year, Remi came to prominence upon being shortlisted in the BBC's Sound of 2017, eventually coming second place. Before releasing his own material, he became best known for featuring on the Apollo 54 song "Negotiate Wimme", which reached number one on the Official Singles Chart. He released his debut album, The Key to Funky, in August 2017 alongside his debut single "Kush".
