Twisted Disco, often stylized as TWISTED DISCO!, is the stage name of electronic musician and record producer Calvin Andrews, who placed fourth in the reality television show IDOL.

History[edit | edit source]

Twisted Disco released his debut single "Sirens" in October 2007, gaining a high indie following which helped to get the group to number six on the charts in its first week before climbing to number four. The song also went on to be a surprise success on the airplay chart, reaching number two.

The musician took a more low key approach to the follow-up, the double A-side "Starbucks/Virgin Horns". Further plagued by many date changes, the single stalled at number 13 when it was accidentally released during Christmas week. Weeks later, he slightly made up for it when their debut release BUTCHERdeck: the classics and the cuts charted at number 11 on the album charts. The album features collaborations with Shell Ruin and Venus Vegas. The following singles, "Can't Stand Losing You" and the Tango Challenge collaboration with Sophie Ramone ("Get Me My Gun") were also top twenty.

Twisted Disco earned his second top five single in June 2009 with "Heart Beats Burnt", which contained interpolations of Emily Henning's 2008 number one "Burnt Out Heartbeat". The single was followed by "Crying In Your Face", which became Twisted Disco's highest charting single at the time, and his debut studio album Adrenaline, Electroshock & Ecstasy. It was quickly followed by "Remission", which contained interpolations and vocal samples of Shell Ruin's "El Bastardo". The song became his third consecutive top five single.

"Neon Milkshake (Wot U Gon' Do?)", featuring pop icon Alesha, became Twisted Disco's first number one single upon its release in July 2010. The single was nominated for Best Collaboration and Best Video at Urapopstar Awards 19. The "Asylum of the Heart EP", a collaboration with Crystal Barker, was released during Christmas week. Despite charting at number three in its first week, it peaked at number one the following week, becoming Twisted Disco's second number one single and Crystal Barker's third.

Twisted Disco will release a cover of Claire Kitten and girlASKboy's "Have A Word" on 28 February, featuring vocals from Beastette, in honour of Urapopstar's tenth anniversary.
