"These Streets" is the first single from alternative artist, Alyssa Monroe taken from her first album, Hot New Trash.
Background[edit | edit source]
Alyssa has stated in the past how the song reflects her time living alone during times of suffering with depression, insomnia and anxiety. The song's chilling backing track and interestingly written lyrics created a song Alyssa was happy to release into the world.
Release and reception[edit | edit source]
The song was rated 4 stars by NME and was given mixed ratings. Many critics said the song was risky for a first release, due to it's slow backing track and dark feeling, however others loved how Alyssa wasn't scared to put her neck on the line and do something different. Alyssa's fanbase were very pleased with the track saying it was "Just what the singer needed." to launch her career with.
Music video[edit | edit source]
The video was released May 15th, 2013. The video shows a mixture of clips in black and white. Some of the shots were even filmed in Alyssa's Brixton flat, to add to the honesty. The video also starred a male actor, whose video clips collide and fade into Alyssa's. Even though the song is about loneliness, Alyssa wanted to take on a different story line for the video; so she introduced herself as living alone, with memories of a past haunting her, we see clips of her and life from her point of view until the video reaches half way and we see the male. We see his life in comparison to Alyssa's whilst the shots still relate with each other.
At the end of the video, we saw text along the screen, "There are two sides to every story."
