Background[edit | edit source]

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Amy was born in Detroit, Michigan on the 21st of November 1990 the second of three children to parents Dantè Burnell and Jessica Govan, her mother was a white American Christian, while her dad was a white British Christan, being brought up by two Christian parents meant that Amy was somewhat forced into the religion at a very young age with Amy and her family regularly attending church.

Amy also has two siblings, younger brother Kivan(21) and older sister Gemma(28), Kivan is a law student in his final year while Gemma is a nurse at a local hospital in Los Angeles.

Once Amy headed into her teens her attitude had changed and she became rebellious to the Christian religion and morals in which her family had brought her up on, her mother was furious with her for going against the family religion, her dad however was a little more passive about her rebellious ways. However after her dad was murdered in 2007, Amy's relationship with her mother only got worse to the point where Amy up and left America and hasn't been back there since.

Early Career[edit | edit source]

In early 2012 Amy had began to get bored with her job which she was working and decided to try and purse a career in music, after a few false starts Amy finally got her music career going with the release of her debut single "Politically Correct" in April 2014, after a agreement was finally made with Amy's label at the time Verve Records as to what sound they were going to market Amy as.

Around this time Amy had also began to start her model career, with Amy appearing in several tatto based magazines as a tatto model, the biggest of these was her May 2014 shoot on the cover of "INK Mag".

Music Career[edit | edit source]

Failed Verve Records Era[edit | edit source]

Amy began to pursue a career in music 2012. To start her career Amy took the long road starting off by performing in local bars and clubs in and around the Manchester area where she was living at the time. After some time Amy began to expand her bases and began to gig in serveal other places In and around the UK. The biggest of these places was the capital London, where Amy was originally discovered by a talent scout at one of her gigs.

Amy later then discovered that the talent scout was interested in having a meeting with her to discuss a possible record deal with him and his label boss. Amy agreed to the meeting and met with Verve Records boss Adam Carpit and a 2 album deal was then agreed apon. However there partnership never lasted for the deals duration.

Amy had an agreement with the label that she was going to be recording and releasing Punk and Grunge style music with the label, however after her promo single "Bleed Tears" failed to make any sort of impact (only managing to chart lowly on the US Rock Chart), the record label pulled the plug on Amy's genre idea and began to market her as a generic pop singer. This however wasn't the music Amy was wanting to release however she went with it in case her contract was stripped from her.

Eventually Amy and the label came to an agreement that her music would have a pop feel with a rock and punk edge to them. Over the next year however Amy was in a legal battle with Verve after they refused to let her go from the label, the legal battle continued into 2013 and 2014 cost the label several thousand pounds in the process.

The label then began to market Amy in order to try and regain some of the money they had lost while the legal battle had been going on. This was when Verve Records began to promote Amy's debut single "Politically Correct", which the label eventually release in March 2014. Verve Records decided to not release the single in the US, instead they targeted a smaller audience and released the single in European countries. After the label issued a television advertisement promotional campaign for the single and with the help of a "Battle Of The Amy's", with wwell-known singers Aimee Lyons and Amy Marshall releasing on the same release date as "Politically Correct". This led shocking to the single become a huge hit when the song entered the URAPS Singles Chart at #3 ahead of Amy Marshall.

Amy then left Verve Records after winning the legal battle meaning that the label had no choice I but to grant Amy her release from the label.

Deal With Blacklight & Rock City Era[edit | edit source]

After the success of "Politically Correct" and her departure from Verve Records Amy returned to modelling briefly. However the success of her debut had caught the attention of Blacklight Records bosses and they contacted Amy asking if she would sign with the label and continue her career with them. Amy accepted their offer and with a new label to support her she began to work on her debut studio album.

In April 2014 Amy announced via her website that she would be releasing a new single the following month and that it would have a feature artist. The feature artists later turned out to be Russian-American singer-songwriter L.E.X. Together they then revealed that the single "Beg, Borrow, Steal" a Industial Pop-Rock song would be released in early May and would serve as the second single from Amy's then unknown debut album. "Beg, Borrow, Steal" went on to enter and peak at #5 on the URAPS Singles chart.

Following the release of "Beg, Borrow, Steal" with L.E.X Amy announced that her debut album was called "Rock City" and that the album would be released soon. The album was well received by music critics who praised the albums unique blend of dance music with a rock twist. "Rock City" was then released in early June and enter the URAPS Album Chart at #1 knocking off Kleo's album "360". Following the albums release Amy took time in choosing the next single from the album and eventually Amy and Blacklight decided upon the slow ballad "Back To Life", which saw it's release in September 2014 and entered and peaked at #4 on the URAPS Singles Chart becoming Amy's third consecutive top 5 single.

However around this time in came to light and public attention that Amy had in fact not written either of her first to singles from the album like she had claimed instead they were written by two unknown artist by the name of Lotus who wrote "Politically Correct" and Mark Talley who was the original writer and performer of "Beg, Borrow, Steal". This information set shockwaves throughout the music world as many had deemed Amy a talented songwriter who could work her way around a hook, this led to Amy not only almost losing her contact with Blacklight but also led to worldwide spread of hate for Amy and L.E.X, but L.E.X was later excuse due to him having no clue the song he featured on was stolen.

The recording process for "Valley Of Thorns" began not long after Amy had released her debut album "Rock City", however after the controversy of her first era Amy went into a mini hiatus and left the public eye until she was ready to return.

Her return came in early February 2015, when her website was updated and Amy confirmed that she was now ready to start again with a new album. Later that month Amy announced her forth single and first from her sophomore album "Good Overcomes Evil", which saw it's released at the end of March to mark the one year of her debut.

During the promotional period for the single Amy announced that not only was she pregnant but also that she would be taking a break after this album era was over. "Good Overcomes Evil" became Amy's lowest charting single when it debuted on the URAPS Singles Chart at #8, but the single climbed to #3 the following week giving Amy her fourth consecutive top 5. The single has since spent 6 weeks inside the top 10 and is Amy's biggest selling hit.

Amy's Sophomore album "Valley Of Thorns" and follow to 2014's "Rock City" was announced after the singles release and is set to be released in July.
