Ashley Esterwood, born October 17th, 1984, is a pop/rock musician who currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Ashley has been singing and songwriting for the majority of her life, getting serious about it as a career at around age 11. She was shy about singing in front of others, but all that changed when she was offered the lead role in a musical for her school, at age 14.
She has always lived in Los Angeles, California, and moved out of her parent's home when she was 18. She began studying in college to become a veterinarian, but soon realized that she was to become a musician. As she was still in college, she began going to various coffee shops, clubs, and other small venues to play shows with a male friend who played guitar. She eventually met up with several producers and made her debut album, Stay Here, which was released in 2007. Ashley made FHM's Hottest Women On URAPS list at #30 that same year as well.
Ashley's sophomore album A&E (Assertion & Energy) had a much more dance-pop sound along with the pop-rock music that she was known for on her debut album. The album was nearly twice as successful as her debut album, with both the album sales and singles performances surpassing that of her first album.
Controversy[edit | edit source]
In August of 2007, Ashley's then-current label Limited Edition Records was accused of telling Ashley to "sex it up" so she could sell more records. While both Ashley and the label denied this claim, Ashley was described as "nervous" during a radio interview where she was asked about this. Also, this wasn't the first time Bonnie's Loopholes (the label owners) had been accused of this same thing.
In October of 2007, it was announced that after the release of her single "Taken Too Much" that she would switch labels to Alias. While the single was still a Limited Edition Records release, Alias had added Ashley to their artist roster and was labeling the song as an Alias release. Rumors then began to go around that Limited Edition would take legal action unless something was settled and sorted out. However, this has not come to pass.
