"The Thought of You (Brings Me To Life)", also known simply as "The Thought of You", is a song by English pop singer Calvin Hawthorne and was released as the second single from Hawthorne's debut album Kelvin on October 15, 2012. The song premiered in September 2012 and managed to receive positive reviews from critics and the public. After initially charting on the UK Downloads Chart at #12, the single eventually debuted and peaked at #3 on the UK Singles Chart. It also charted in the Ireland and the United States within the top ten. The song is considered to be Hawthorne's biggest hit and most successful single to date.

Critical reception[edit | edit source]

"The Thought of You" received positive reviews from critics and fans who complimented the song's lyrics and production. On a rare and surprising occurrence, Hawthorne's vocal performance was also praised though many critics, including PopJustice, who gave the song its only documented negative review, accused Hawthorne of "overusing" pitch correction software on the song.

Commercial performance[edit | edit source]

After its premiere, "The Thought of You (Brings Me To Life)" debuted at #19 on the UK Downloads Chart and managed to stay there for two weeks before it rose to #12. "The Thought of You" has since been recognized as one of the longest-staying songs on the download charts.

In October 2012, "The Thought of You (Brings Me To Life)" debuted at #3 on the UK Singles Chart, becoming Hawthorne's first top three hit in the UK. Coinciding with its parent album, Kelvin, reaching #1 on the albums chart, Hawthorne expressed his excitement and surprise for both of the album's and single's success. The single sold 84,001 copies in its first week and has sold 316,666 copies in total. The single has been certified Platinum by the Urapopstar Recording Association Phonographic Selection (URAPS), making it Hawthorne's first Platinum single and his most successful to date. It stayed on the charts for fifteen weeks, becoming Hawthorne's longest charting single to date.

The single also debuted at #5 in Ireland, becoming Hawthorne's first charting single there after his previous single "Pretend" initially failed to chart (it eventually charted because of the popularity of "The Thought of You"). In the United States, the single has peaked at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming his second top ten single there. It has been certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). "The Thought of You" was also Hawthorne's first charting single in Canada, where it charted at #16.

Released as Hawthorne's debut single in Sweden, it peaked at #2 on the Sverigetopplistan.
