World War Sex is the debut studio album by porno-pop singer Lucas Brandt. It was released on March 19th, 2012, alongside its lead single "Down My Throat", which is a duet with Afrika Rose recorded and released for the 2012 Tango Challenge. The album was a surprise success, debuting at #2 on the chart. To date it has spawned three top 10 hits. The album is certified platinum with sales exceeding 540k.
Background & Recording[edit | edit source]
Lucas' first studio recording occurred in mid-2011 when he recorded "Hypersonic" for the URAPS Idol 12 cast album. Later that same year he recorded the dirty Christmas song "Sex-Mas". The two songs were released as a double A-side single on Christmas week of 2011. The single proved to be a top 10 success, but neither song was included on "World War Sex" when it was released. Lucas began recording his album in January, 2012. He put himself up for the 2012 Tango Challenge, and was paired up with Afrika Rose. They wrote and recorded the duet "Down My Throat" together, which served as the lead single to Lucas' album. Lucas worked with a number of dance producers on his album, which was marketed as a dance/pop album although porno-pop is a more accurate definition of Lucas' genre. Lucas recorded a duet with Bella-May for the album, which wound up being the title track of the album, after Lucas decided "World War Sex" was a stronger album title than the originally planned title of "Sex Machine". Lucas signed a one-album deal with Blacklight Records to promote the record, after having previously signed with the label only for the one single when he released "Hypersonic / Sex-Mas" in 2011. One song on the album, "Brett Clarkson", was written as a love song of sorts dedicated to Lucas' mentor and idol, Brett Clarkson.
Collaborations[edit | edit source]
Lucas wrote the entirety of the album himself, except for "Down My Throat" which he co-wrote with duet partner Afrika Rose for the 2012 Tango Challenge. Afrika taught Lucas how to rap, and both have rapped verses on the song, which was produced by RedOne. Lucas recorded collaborations with Bella-May as well; he wrote the song "World War Sex" which features guest vocals from Bella-May, and it is confirmed that Lucas may have recorded an additional collaboration with Bella-May for her third studio album. Lucas worked with Brett Clarkson on the single version of "Brett Clarkson", which was released in August 2012 as the album's third single.

Chart Performance[edit | edit source]
"World War Sex" exceeded expectations when it debuted at #2 on the UK album chart, with sales of 74,365 copies. Even more surprisingly, it held in the top 5 in its second week with a further 72,744 copies sold. The album has sold decently considering Lucas' relatively low popularity, having been certified platinum off the back of top 10 hits "Down My Throat", "Stroke The Ego" and "Brett Clarkson". It is expected that the album will sell at least 550k with the help of Lucas' current single.
