"You'll Wish You Hadn't" is a single by singer Violetta DiNozzo, and the final single released from her debut album "Just Another Girl". It was co-written by Violetta with Alexei and Tobias from Phoenix Rising. The song was intended to be the follow-up to "House Of Cards" in 2009 but health issues caused the single to be shelved. When the album was given a re-release for the URAPS 10th Anniversary, the single was finally released as part of the anniversary week celebrations.
Background[edit | edit source]
"You'll Wish You Hadn't" was written with Alexei Monaghan and Tobias Strait as one of the first songs prepared for Violetta's album, just as a starting point. It was chosen to be the next single after "House Of Cards", once it was determined that the timing would not work for the release of "Connect The Dots" with China. After an incident at the URAPS awards in which Violetta's face was cannibalised by Phyllis Remington of Fat Lady, the single was eventually cancelled, even after a proposed concept of bridging her old look with the new look she received after reconstructive surgery. In 2011, the album was re-released for its two-year anniversary, with the 10th anniversary of URAPS looming. The song was finally given release treatment on the week of the 10th anniversary, with a trance remix by Svenson & Gielen to line the song up with her more current sound as opposed to the pop sound of the original album version.
Reception[edit | edit source]
"You'll Wish You Hadn't" gained far greater attention with its re-release, with Violetta having a greatly-improved reputation compared to the time it was initially released on her album. The remix was well-received for switching up the song's sound and updating it for a wider audience. Despite the good reception, Violetta only gave herself a fortnight to rush-release the single; as a result it did not perform any better than the singles from the album's first run, and its airplay performance was even more limited. One thing it had to its credit was the digital market; the digital chart was not active during Violetta's first era, and although the song wasn't a big digital hit for Violetta, it managed to chart in the top 10.

Music Video[edit | edit source]
The video opens with a far shot of a tower. The music begins as we zoom in toward the tower. We hear Violetta singing the first verse from speakers located around the various levels of the tower, and we see a multitude of TV screens showing Violetta’s old music videos (note the one close-up showing the original ‘Smash Some Windows’ video playing). We get a look all around the tower, including a set of security monitors which are all playing various behind-the-scenes footage of Violetta, but the girl herself isn’t anywhere to be found just yet. When the chorus hits, Violetta explodes from a trap door in the bottom of the tower, and we see her rising up with her arms outspread. In the background we can see parts ‘Wicked’ and ‘Lovekill’ on some of the TV screens.
During the ‘you’ll wish you hadn’t’ hook, we see just Violetta’s lips with ruby lipstick, singing the words. When the second verse hits, multi-coloured paint explodes from tubes taped to Violetta’s hands. As paint flies everywhere, we see a new scene showing two Violettas; one blonde, one brunette, and they’re fighting against each other. The blonde Violetta represents her first era when she was an arrogant bitch, while the brunette Violetta is the one from her second era with experience and humility on her side. As the fight goes on, the Violetta in the video tower is getting paint everywhere, including herself. We see close-ups of some of the screens getting paint splashed all over them as the two fighting Violettas hound on each other.
During the bridge we see the Violetta from the video tower continuing to go crazy as she throws paint around. In the background we can see the videos for ‘Hope’ and ‘Connect The Dots’, as well as the ‘Connect The Dots’ performance from 2009’s ‘A Night In With Romo & China’. Once the bridge finishes, the video tower Violetta collapses with paint all over herself and in her hair; at the same time as the dueling Violettas, with the blonde one falling on top of the brunette. As the final chorus winds to a close, we see a meteor rapidly descending to earth. Just as it’s about to hit, we see an extreme close-up shot of Violetta’s eye snapping open. The video cuts to black and a ‘to be continued’ card is shown on the screen.
Chart Performance[edit | edit source]
"You'll Wish You Hadn't" was the third top 10 from the "Just Another Girl", with an elevated opening week due to anniversary week sales of over 50k for #10. Being a rush-release, the single did well to achieve this peak, especially with a major chart battle between other big releases of that week. The song's overall performance did not exceed any of the other singles from Violetta's debut era. It was the least-played song of the era, barely charting for a single week before falling off. The song was a mild digital hit, something which none of the other singles from the "Just Another Girl" era achieved as the download chart did not exist at that time.
