A Million Tales is a single by American singer Ana Simpson. It was released as the only single from her collections album Ultimate Phase. The single entered the charts at number one and remained at the top spot for two consecutive weeks. The song was nominated for Best Single at the Urapopstar Awards 19.

Song Information[edit | edit source]

“A Million Tales” is a pop mid-tempo ballad that was record live in London using the powerful raw voice of Simpson. She says, "It's all about that moment one fall love; and it’s all about passing on the story to other generation.” She adds "I remember going into the studio and singing it from the beginning to end over and over again. I haven't sung like that since the recordings of my first album. That's me there, no bells and whistles, no sound effects; it was me in the purest form just having a good sing."

Reception[edit | edit source]

The song was reviewed in Digital Spy's website on April 15, 2010, garnering a 4/5 star review with the summary, "sure to be a song wanted by commercial radio stations". A critic of Allmusic praised the song. Christian Hoard of Rolling Stone described "A Million Tales" as "serviceable: long on beautiful" and "professional-grade melodies and sweet mellow but uplifting beats". Meanwhile, Bill Lamb of About.com review stated that the single is "good one" for "the promise of spring". Even though the song received genuinely good reviews, Paul Taylor of the Manchester Evening News called the song "impassioned".

Music Video[edit | edit source]

Simpson in the video for "A Million Tales".

The video for the song was shot in Sydney, Australia on April 5, 2010, directed by Rocky Schenck. According to insiders the video shows the sexiest Simpson has made to date, with Simpson having in several scenes a Brigitte Bardot look. Simpson herself said about making the video; "I've done many videos in my career. So this time I wanted to do something simple, but beautiful. This is going to be a very basic video, probably the easiest video I’ve ever done. I feel that at this stage of my career, it's not about doing something extravagant, but rather something more general that will display more smile and happiness, even though this is really it"

The video is set to be premiered on May 1, 2010 on the TV program 4Music. Although the video has been criticized for being too "basic" it has been praised for its effectiveness by intentionally having a simple video with the focus placed upon Simpson's personality thus creating a fresh and bright mood rather than a story and having special effects. Simpson had also stated that she had wanted it to be about her singing the song.
