Difused are a five piece teen boyband from England in the United Kingdom. The group managed to stand out amongst fellow newcomers as two of the members are the younger brother to already established popstars (Danny is the brother of Ruby Stephingham and Jamie is the brother of Candi & Chase Elite). Their debut single "No Way Out" was released on 9 January 2012 and charted at an impressive #2. Follow up single "What's A Boy To Do?" charted at #3. The band's debut album "What Did You Expect?" was released on 12 November 2012 along with their third single "Time Will Tell" with Jetfire, and both releases charted at #1.

Formation[edit | edit source]

Blacklight Records ran a series of auditions in late 2010 in search for the next boyband with a difference. There were rules however, artists of a certain talent were expected. Danny Stephingham and Jamie Elite were approached for their place in the band, to which the accepted. They then joined the judging panels for a series of auditions to find their band members. The third member to go through was Jack Dawson, the notorious ladies man of the group. The boys picked him on his "effortless talent to capture an audience, not only with his looks but with his outstanding voice which has a rock-tone to it". The fourth member was Kieran Harris, related to Coral Harris, even though related, they're both very different. Kieran was put through due to his musical talents and lead vocal type voice. The final member to join the four was MIDNIGHT's brother, Kris Rios. He was put into the band for his background of production on musical projects and also for his recognizable voice. The band were official formed in early 2011, and the band got to work on creating their image. They got writing with many other artists to help create their sound.

What Did You Expect? (2011 - 2013)[edit | edit source]

On November 18, 2011 - the band were introduced to the public. Immediately they received a large amount of media interest due to Danny and Jamie's celebrity relations. The band were signed to Blacklight Records in December 2011. Due to Candi's influence on the label, she got them an interview, where they performed for label bosses Dresden & Bareilles, and were signed on the spot. On December 4, 2011 "No Way Out" was revealed to be the debut single from the group. The boys also received a lot of attention in early December due to the death of Jamie Elite's elder brother Carter. On December 29, the boys moved into a £2 million mansion together. "No Way Out" was released January 9, 2012 and debuted at #2 on the chart. Their debut album is due for release in the summer. The boys also received a URAPS Awards nomination for 'Critic's Choice'. The second single to be released from the group's upcoming album has been revealed as "What's A Boy To Do?", written by Jamie's sister Candi and was released July 30, 2012. It charted at #3 on the charts. The group also launched their own show on the Disney Channel, showing their life in a cartoon world. On 09 October, 2012 band member Jamie Elite revealed in the boy's newsletter that their first EP would be titled "False Alarm" and that the group's third single would be the official 2012 Children In Need single, and would be a duet with fellow boy band Jetfire, titled "Time Will Tell". The EP has since been renamed to "What Did You Expect?". On 18 November, both "What Did You Expect?" and "Turn Back Time" charted at #1, giving the band both the chart topping single and album for the week.

NME described their EP as the following, "When you think 'teen boy band' a lot of us think towards the stereotype of spotty teenagers with basic musical instrument skills. However this is not the case with DIFUSED as we are surprised with their EP. Experimenting with Indie Pop and Indie Rock tones, the boys have created a masterpiece and have changed the perception of teen boyband music. The EP as a whole received plenty of positive reviews.

On 2 June 2013, the group premiered a new single, titled "Broken Galaxies", due to be released on 8th July 2013. It was revealed that this track would be released alongside a re-release of the album. However, plans for this release were eventually cancelled.

Media Depiction[edit | edit source]
