Thalia Jade Bennett better known as "Thalia" is an American born singer/songwriter, Urapopstar Award Winning artist, who first rose to fame as one third of the R'n B/Hip Hop trio SHY.

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Thalia was born in Queens, New York to parents Dennis Bennett and mother Jackie (née Turner) her father is Mexican-American while her mother is Indian-African-American. She has three older sisters Tania Bennett, and Taryn Short (née Bennett), who was also an original member of SHY, as well as sister Tamara and two younger brothers Elvis Bennett, and Elias Bennett.

Thalia attended Jamaica Highschool, Queens, NYC with her sister, the pair ended up meeting mutual friend Aisha and all figured they had a talent, all three could sing and Aisha was gifted in rapping. Forming the group SHY with another friend (whose identity has always been a mystery and left before the group became well known) the girls entered many talent quests and began taking out competitions, statewide. The girls gathered enough attention to be called for an audition at RocNation

SHY[edit | edit source]

Originally SHY consisted of Aisha La'Verne, Taryn Bennett, Thalia and an unknown 4th member. During the winter of 2003, the girls had been showcasing in order to bring attention upon themselves. Doing so, producer Moneybaggz, a notable figure at RocNation picked the girls up for an audition.

The audition was fruitful and SHY were brought in to record their first single and album. Both album and single done poorly on the charts and Taryn Bennett quit the group.

While in SHY Thalia racked up 3 top ten hits, 8 top 20 hits and a top ten album. The group never claimed commercial success, however the group always came with much critical acclaim.

During the run up for the announcement of their new single, founding member Aisha quit the group. Thalia and former member Laya continued in the group until mid 2010, when Thalia finally quit, officially causing the break up of the trio.

During her time in SHY, Thalia was never free from media scrutiny about her tragic and booze ridden life.

Return To SHY[edit | edit source]

2015 has seen Thalia confirm she will rejoin her old band mates in a return to the charts as one third of SHY.

On Saturday the 25th of April, 2015 Thalia performed at London's G A Y Nightclub and was joined by Aisha and Laya.

Solo Career[edit | edit source]

You Got Me & Hiatus[edit | edit source]

With SHY falling apart, Thalia signed with the now defunct Wired Records and began recording for a solo record. By mid 2010 her first single was ready for release, however half way through promotion the singer flew back to the U.S. The song did quite well, coming in the U.K charts at number ten and numerous other countries (New Zealand, Australia, Canada, U.S.A). Many were disappointed in the singer and just before 2011, Thalia left Wired Records with no plans to return to her music career.

In a 2012 interview the singer admitted that her album had been half recorded, before being shelved. She also suggested that a lot of the material had been re-recorded for 2012 release, however none of this material ever surfaced or leaked.

2010 - 2012[edit | edit source]

In late January Thalia was spotted back in the U.K. Speculation arose of Thalia recording new material, however the singer denied all these rumours via Twitter, stating that she was merely helping other artists record.

During the middle of March Thalia's website had it's first update in two years, announcing the title of her comeback single "Time's Never Right" a week later the song premiered on Radio 1. The song came with great critical acclaim, stating this could be the comeback Thalia needed to get her career back on the right track. With the release penciled in for April 30, she began a grueling promotional campaign for the single. "Time's Never Right" went on to become the second highest charting single of her week, coming in at number 2, behind Kleo and Thalia's highest charting single of her short career as of late. Thalia toured as opening act for Kleo on the UK Leg of her world tour.

After the release of "Time's Never Right" her official website announced her debut album would be released in September 2012, due to unforeseen circumstances, the album and second single never came into fruition. It was later revealed that she had parted ways with her record label, again.

2013 - Present[edit | edit source]

After parting ways with her record label she moved to Los Angeles, where she went on to become a successful DJ around the area. She also traveled all corners of the world to DJ from Australia to Brazil and notably made a comfy living from it.

During her time DJing, she continued to record music with no intention of actually releasing it, even though in mid 2014 a couple of her songs leaked onto the internet. This set the internet alight with rumours the singer was coming back to release her long awaited album and second single. The latter turned out to be untrue.

During February, 2015 Thalia was spotted back in the UK leaving a Soho recording studio, she confirmed via social media that she had signed with a new "indie" label and was finishing off work for her album. Weeks later the single "If You Don't Love Me" was confirmed as the singers 'comeback' and had it's first spin on Radio 1.

On May 11th, 2015 "If You Don't Love Me" entered the UK charts at number 3, making this Thalia's second consecutive top 3 single and third top ten of the same accolade.

On the 7th of June it was announced Thalia would release "Cool Shoes" a song that is set to feature on her debut album "Finally". During the promotion of the single and album, she left her label, MoneyBaggz Nation and signed with Blacklight Records.

"Cool Shoes" debut at number 6 on it's first week, before rising to number 2. It's Thalia's biggest selling single to date.

During promotion for her latest single "So, So High", the third single to be lifted from the album, it was annouced Thalia was nominated for a Urapopstar Award, "Best Breakthrough". She won

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

Thalia's personal life has featured heavily in the media, due to her infidelities, drug problems and alcohol abuse.

Children[edit | edit source]

July 23rd, 2005 Thalia gave birth to Daughter Shayla Bennett-Case fathered by Fifth Element member Cody Case

In 2008, during the promotion of SHY's 5th single, rumours spread that a member of SHY was pregnant. While the press released reports stating it was Laya, it was in fact Thalia, who announced she was expecting again. Controversy surrounded the pregnancy, as rumours began to circulate about who the father was. It was later revealed R&B star Matt Jones was the father. Jones was married to Kelly Jones at the time. Thalia gave birth to a baby boy in September 2008.

Thalia has managed to keep her children from ever being papped, due to a rumoured agreement she made with ex-fiancée Cody Case - in they wouldn't use their child as a promotional tool. She also kept the same agreement with Matt Jones and their son.

Relationships[edit | edit source]

Thalia entered the music world in 2003 engaged to her boyfriend of 5 years, Fifth Element singer Cody Case. The pair eventually broke up in late 2004, after they apparently fell out of love. In 2007 it was discovered that Cody had fathered a child by Bennett in 2005.

After all the chaos surrounding Thalia's second pregnancy, she became involved with R&B star Matt Jones, after he called off his marriage to Kelly Brown. The pair officially split at the end beginning of 2013 and has inspired much of the new music for Thalia.

In 2015 it was confirmed via Thalia's two band mates that she was dating up-coming singer Nate Issackson, who also doubled as the girls producer.

Prison[edit | edit source]

In early 2007, Thalia was sentenced to spend 6 months in a correctional facility, after a string of assaults (including one on former singer Autumn White). Thalia only spent 4 months of her time in jail, completing the rest on home detention.
