"Wreck Of The Day" is the second single and final single by electronic dance outfit Schizophonic. Released on March 9th, 2009 (exactly a month after the band's debut single) it was the more successful of their two singles, charting inside the top 10 and helping the group's album do the same. Overall however, it was still commercially stunted and also missed certification.
Background[edit | edit source]
"Wreck Of The Day" was well-regarded by the group as one of their stronger songs, and it was chosen to be the follow-up to "Amnesiatic". After the disappointing performance of their debut single, they ploughed straight on with the second release, pushing through the controversy and negative public perception of the trio. During this time, Alexei returned to Phoenix Rising; as a result, the song was remixed for single release, with Raphael taking on additional vocal duties on the single mix.
Reception[edit | edit source]
Public opinion of Schizophonic was low at the time that "Wreck Of The Day" was announced, but the song was reviewed moderately favourably. With the song being regarded more highly than its predecessor, it had a stronger radio presence; however it was still not overly successful. During this time, the worst of the controversy surrounding Schizophonic hit, with an explosive feud erupting between Alexei and Indigo Peak which led to a major backlash. Alexei wrote songs about the feud, one of which would make the band's album while the other went unreleased due to being too angry and aggressive, and would make matters worse. The single wasn't cancelled despite the drama, and it was seen as a lucky break that the single managed to chart in the top 10 after everything that happened.

Music Video[edit | edit source]
The video begins at what appears to be some college frat house party. There is no visible explanation for Schizophonic's presence at the party other than Sylar DJ'ing for it. 'Dreadnaught' is playing in the background during the opening shots which highlight each brother's position in the room intercut with shots of the sound system speakers. Unexpectedly, the power cuts out silencing the party and leaving the place in darkness. Without warning, an unnatural light floods the house coming from seemingly nowhere as the music for 'Wreck Of The Day' starts to pump out of the speakers despite the power being cut.
What follows throughout the video doesn't really follow a major storyline of any sort; during the song the three brothers are seen wandering around the house not appearing to be bothered looking for an exit as the combination of light and music creates a visible hallucinogenic effect colouring the rooms in strange ways and causing doubling-up and after-images as Alexei and Rafe sing to the camera. Rafe is usually seen alone in an oddly-blueish hallway but his brothers wind up in the rooms with all the wasted party-goers who don't seem to be aware of what's happening around them. When the song finishes the unnatural light disappears and the power comes back, with 'Dreadnaught' abruptly starting to play again. The three brothers return to their starting positions from the beginning of the video and resume as though nothing ever happened as the music fades out and the screen fades to black.
Chart Performance[edit | edit source]
Expectations for "Wreck Of The Day" were quite low given Schizophonic's poor industry standing and the failure of their previous single, especially after the massive controversy that erupted between Alexei and Indigo Peak. Prior to any of this, the song enjoyed a greater radio presence than "Amnesiatic", although it still missed the top 20 on the airplay chart. On the main singles chart it was a surprise top 10 even after the controversy, selling over double the sales tally of its predecessor. Despite this, it still missed 100k and was not certified.
