"Hard Shoulder" is a download only release from British recording artist Coral Harris. Although not an official single, the track was released to raise interest in Coral, and was written by the singer herself. It peaked at #2 on the download chart, spending 3 weeks in the top 5.

Background[edit | edit source]

Coral revealed in October 2011 that she had no plans to release her debut single until 2012. She would however, be featuring on other artist's tracks beforehand, in order to raise her profile. She also announced that a download only release of a track named "Hard Shoulder" would take place. Although it is unknown if the track will appear on her debut album, it's function is to introduce the British public to Coral's music and get people talking about the singer.

The single was originally scheduled for a release date of 14 November, 2011. However when the date arrived, "Hard Shoulder" was not available to be downloaded. Coral put the blame down to her management, and it was "with regret" pushed back a week.

Release and reception[edit | edit source]

The single premiered on Saturday 05 November around midday, on Coral's official website. The track was reviewed by Digital Spy where they gave the single 4/5 stars:

"Although I told your friends your shit in bed, took at least a day/ For you to get it up and once you did you really brought me down/ This ain't my sex face baby, it's more of an unimpressed frown" Coral boasts on her first chart botherer. Normally we'd be inclined to warn her that she's left it a bit late on the Halloween front - no matter how clever the metaphors - but given the fact she punched a fully grown man in the face last weekend, who are we to question her?

Fortunately, the rest of the track is less spooktacular and more in-yer-face girl power. "Here comes my boulder/ I hope that you smoulder" she calls over a squelchy and thoroughly grindable bassline with just enough disgust in her tone to warn off any fellas who think she's a cheap date. We have to admit, for a download only single, this track has left us very excited to hear what Coral's official releases will be like!

Music video[edit | edit source]

There was no official video for the track, as it was not an official single.
